I'm surprised to read that we'll apparently be seeded in the Europa League play-off. If so, hopefully the draw is as kind to us as possible.

Unless UEFA change things, there is no "seeding" in the sense of the 20 teams being sorted by club coefficient and split into seeded/unseeded groups.

You can see how it was done last year - Turkey are in same position as us next season: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021–22_UEFA_Europa_League_qualifying_phase_and_play-off_round#Play-off_round

Hearts will play one of:

Priority 3: 5 winners of the third qualifying round (Champions Path)

Priority 4: 3 winners of the third qualifying round (Main Path) - ie the losers of ties involving 6 runners-up from associations 10–15

All this group stage chat is dependent upon Villareal not winning the CL though, isn't it?

No. (for Celtic yes, but not Hearts)

Aye, not strictly the seeding you would usually see, though in theory the priority groups give you a chance of playing a side like Rangers had this season. Granted, that turned out a much tougher game than it looked on paper.

I know money will be greater on the Europa, but the conference maybe gives hearts a better chance to compete evenly.
Similar to why I think Celtic and Rangers are better in the Europa League than champions League.
Much more fun to watch competitive games, than getting humped.

Group stage participation might be better numbers but more chance of not winning a game at that point be better in ecl if they win 3 games they make just a bit more than the Europa league group stage payment

The quality of those teams varies so much it's ridiculous. A 2 legged tie against TNS to reach the Europa League would have you laughing.

Aye, here's hoping, followed by a group stage draw against Manchester United, Roma, and Union Berlin. 😎

Obviously nobody is going to go into a European tie hoping to get beat, but I can see us maybe being better off in the Conference.

More likely to win games and possibly end up actually financially better off, a puncher's chance at maybe getting out a group and improving our coefficient a bit. And the trips in the Conference look fucking amazing.

Still ,it'll be a right laugh whatever. Can't wait.

Doubtful. The "market pool" for the Europa League is like 10x what it is for the Conference, probably getting another £1-2m in the EL to £250k in the Conference League.

This has probably already been asked but if Rangers were to win the Europa League would this send Hearts into the Champions League qualifying rounds that Rangers would have played in?

No, makes no difference.

How’s that then?

If Rangers enter the Champions League group stage by winning the Europa League then who gets Rangers qualifying spot in the Premiership?

No one. It bumps up some other teams in CL qualifiers. So teams from Serbia or Austria or whatever have slightly easier qualification paths for the CL.

It's a very odd setup from UEFA. I think it's an attempt to guarantee more league and cup winners reaching the GS.

It'll look even more extreme if/when some seeds lose in CL q2.
The playoff draw will be done before the EL 3rd round takes place so for Hearts its possible one extreme could be Dynamo Kiev/Fenerbahce and the other TNS/Shamrock Rovers.

The seeding spreadsheet now shows Hearts in pot 3, thanks to Rangers win and the Cypriot Cup winners now being ranked lower.

Is that for the Conference League only or? If we make the Europa League groups, it would be quite surreal not being in pot four, even if that's due to piggybacking on Scotland's overall coefficient.

Conference only. Likely get a few, but it seems unlikely you'll get the required 8 lower ranked clubs into the EL GS to push you up to pot 3, unless there's some big upsets and favourable draws. Plus you've got to win the play-off.
