Bit late to the party but shitlord DL Garrett Marino was released by the Rough Riders at the start of the month after clearly learning nothing from his 4-game suspension. First game back from suspension he was fined for unnecessary roughness against Lions OL Peter Godber then the following week leveled Blue Bombers QB Zach Collaros late. The day after his release CFL commisoner Randy Ambrosie issued a memo reminding teams that he can refuse to register any player contract for any reason deemed valid. Read valid reason as player safety. While not official this move pretty much blacklists Marino from the CFL. Marino has since signed with with the Michigan Panthers of the USFL so condolences to any non-Panthers USFL players.

Stamps LB Cameron Judge has been served a one game suspension for punching Lions WR Lucky Whitehead in a post-game altercation.

Stamps, Lions & Argos book their spots in the post season. Well done to the Red Blacks who turned the ball over just the seven times with five being INTs. The other two were a fumble & turnover on downs.

The Stamps have extended QB Jake Maier's contract through the 2024 season raising the question as to whether Bo Levi Mitchell who'se decade in the CFL has been spent entirely with the team will be around for next season.  Stamps could get a hell of a return in any off-season trade.

With their 15th consecutive loss at home the Elks have set a new pro football record sparing the blushes of the Cowboys, Rams & Rough Riders of the Ottawa variety. The Elks last home victory was October 12th 2019 or 1091 days against the Lions. The Elks have two homes games left so don't be surprised if the record gets extended further.

The Redblacks last Saturday parted way with Paul LaPolice who posted a 6-22 record during his just shy of two full seasons in charge with current special teams co-coordinator Bob Dyce being given the HC job on a interim basis. Dyce previously served as an interim HC with the Roughriders in 2015 where he posted a 3-6 record. LaPolice was also the team's OC & that role has been given to current QB coach Will Arndt. To assist Dyce & Arndt Cory McDiarmid & Doug Malone have been hired as a special teams assistant & offensive consultant respectively.

The Als book their post-season spot while the Elks extend the winless home streak to 16. One post season spot remains with three teams left in contention. The TiCats & Red Blacks play each other in a double header while the Rough Riders have a double header against the Stamps.

Hamilton lock in the remaining post-season spot while Toronto secure their 24th Eastern Division title. Out West Edmonton extend the home losing streak to 17 while in Saskatchewan it looks like Cody Fajardo's time as their QB is is over as the team opted for Mason fine in a must win game.

Divisional Semi-Finals

BOX SCORE

Lions QB Nathan Rourke notches his first career playoff win. With eleven minutes left in the game the Stamps brought Bo Levi Mitchell in under centre & proceeded to put up more yards than Jake Maier achieved across 3 & a bit quarters. If Mitchell had come into the game earlier maybe the Stamps could've ran the Lions a bit closer. Mitchell has since confirmed this was his last game for the Stamps & his future will be elsewhere. Within the CFL the Roughriders who also need an actual functioning O-line are all but certain to be in the market for a QB so seems the most likely destination. Would be an interesting move as the Roughriders & Stamps are divisional rivals & Mitchell has spent his entire decade long pro football career with the Stamps. The USFL & XFL could also come calling but I'd rule out an NFL move as a backup. Regardless of what happens next Mitchell is a guaranteed future HOF candidate with x2 Grey Cups, x2 Grey Cup MOP, x2 CFL MOP, x2 CFL All star & x2 pass leader to his name.

The Argos have a major boost for the Eastern Final as star RB Andrew Harris returned to practice last week. Harris has been out of action since going down with a pectoral muscle tear week 8 in a loss against the Ti-Cats.

Rourke's first CFL post-season & possibly his last for a while comes to an end. With his season over Rourke is to begin working for out NFL teams. Not a surprising move as NFL scouting departments having been looking at him for a while. Two thirds of the league are reportedly interested in him. Could be an interesting alternative if a team doesn't want to use a draft pick for a QB.

Denizens of Manitoba spent a good part of the week sweating profousley after QB Zach Collaros suffered an ankle injury late in the Western Final & missed several practices but has since been cleared to play.

Hamilton have acquired the rights to Stamps QB Bo Levi Mitchell in exchange for a 3rd & 5th round draft pick. Mitchell isn't rushing into anything & will wait until free agency before making a decision. If Mitchell does go to the Ti-Cats then one of Dane Evans or Matthew Schiltz is out the door at Hamilton. Most likely the former imo.

League commander in chief Randy Ambrosie held his year state of the league address. During a fan Q&A post address Ambrosie confirmed that going forward all post-season games minus the Grey Cup will be moved from Sundays to Saturdays. Surprised it took the league this long to make such a decision as the Sunday slots put the league up against the NFL directly. On the downside I no longer have an excuse for a two week escape from whatever shitshow is happening in Detroit.

The end of season awards have been divvied oot.

109th Grey Cup

image.thumb.png.4096192a1e38df6dbb9ad7287d097158.png

BOX SCORE

BIt late to the party but the last two minutes of this game were wild. The Argos K Boris Bede had a a 43yd FG attempt blocked by Blue Bombers DB Nick Hallet giving the Blue Bombers control of the ball on their own 29yd line. On the preceeding Blue Bombers drive QB Zach Collaros was sacked by DL Robbie Smith on a 2nd & 5 putting the Blue Bombers in a 3rd & 13. Smith again sacked Collaros but was called for a face mask giving the Blue Bombers a lifeline. The Bombers drive got down field enough for a 47yd attempt by Marc Liegghio that in proper redemption arc stuff was blocked by none other than Robbie Smith. Argos LB Hénoc Muamba did the double winning both MVP & Most Valuable Canadian becoming only the 2nd player to do both in the same game the other being team mate RB Andrew Harris. Special mention to Argos DE Ja'Gared Davis who has made the Grey Cup in all six seasons he's played in the league back to back. This is his second Grey Cup win with his previous win coming with the Stamps in 2018.
