Songs, movies and shows that wouldn't be made nowadays

With these two I was just meaning you wouldn't see them on council telly.

That's largely because they're good films

Freeview's been shite for years, but I guess somebody must watch it.

I read (well, listened to the audio book) of Stephen King’s It recently. Every description of a schoolgirl described what was/wasn’t under her shirt. The 11 year old getting gang banged and comparing the performances of her male pals might not fly these days.

I loved King's stuff around that time but he had a real issue dropping in sexual stuff that was just not necessary. The above was probably the worst though.

"What a Crazy World" stars Joe Brown & Marty Wilde (Kim's dad). Freddy & the Dreamers get a cameo, and Harry H Corbett play's Joe Brown's dad. Sounds like a decent cast for an early 1960's musical comedy with some well respected names.

Here's the first big musical number

It doesn't really improve after this.

Bit related but that "Hey there Delilah" song that was big a decade or two ago

Gawds.

This made me feel so old I've had to leave the thread after reaching it.

Christ.

This hugely underrated comedy most likely wouldn't be made for obvious reasons

Tremendous show. An obvious reason why BBC3 should have stayed on mainstream tv.

News just in, it's been back since the start of the month.

Illegal Alien by Genesis.

A terrible song, full of cultural appropriation and even sang in a daft fake Mexican accent. What the f**k were they even thinking?

They were probably thinking “it’s 1983”.

I haven't thought about that song in years but O'Sullivan regularly babysat for Clair, who was the daughter of his manager. He wrote the song for her parents with the help of her Mum. It's Clair laughing at the end.

Yup.

Ok fair enough but "Ooh Wakka Doo Wakka Day" ?  We've got to nail the b*****d on that one, surely !?

I didn't even remember that one, so had to look up the lyrics. Fûcking hell.  I hereby withdraw my defence of that reprobate.

'angin's too good for 'em

Bill Wyman

Close the thread.

Is he a song, show or film?

If we don't get to separate the art from the artist then my album collection is going to hit (low) three figures for the first time since the mid-eighties.

Fun fact - 1000th LP was "As it Happens" - Dr Feelgood's live opus including FREE! Bonus Encores EP. Bought second-hand from a wee record shop I can't remember the name of in the Davygate Arcade, York - just down from the Wimpy.
