Rutherglen Glencairn v Arthurlie Game Off

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately we have an issue with two small areas of our pitch on the open terracing side which are holding water and not draining, and we're not sure why. This has been the cause of our recent postponements and, despite a reasonably dry day yesterday and today, the areas are still very very soft and dangerous to players. 95% of the pitch is absolutely fine, it's just these two areas about 10m x 2m each, one worse than the other.

We have discussed the situation with an external pitch specialist and have arranged for them to assess and (hopefully) repair the issue, but unfortunately we were not able to get them to come out in time for tonight's game. Arthurlie were kept fully informed of the situation from last evening and their club officials have been very accepting of the situation. The decision to postpone the match was made by the Fixtures Secretary after video evidence of the current situation was produced at lunchtime today.

We are hopeful that the work about to be done by the contractor, coupled with the good weather forecast for the next week or so, will mean that our scheduled home match v Darvel will go ahead on Monday night coming.

Pathetic post.

We had a pitch inspection by a referee (Ross Birrell) at 1.15pm which passed. The same referee offered to come back at 4pm if the forecast heavy rain caused a problem. By 4pm it hadn't rained so we were happy to declare the game was on.

When we arrived at the stadium at 5.15pm it was now raining heavily and water was lying on the pitch. Fortunately the rain went off about 5.45pm, and when the match referee (Chris Gentles) arrived he asked me if we had any specific areas of concern. I told him of the two soft areas which had caused our recent postponements.

Mr Gentles and his assistants were then left to do a pitch inspection on their own, without any influencing voices anywhere near them. Their decision was that the game could start as long as one small area was forked.

We were grateful for the help of a couple of Arthurlie personnel to fork the area as we are a small committee (only 5 present tonight) and turnstiles needed manned and team lines needed done etc.

There was no attempt whatsoever to influence the referee's decision either in the afternoon inspection or the pre-match inspection. We were happy to abide by whatever decision was made, despite our very obvious team selection issues.

As far as the match is concerned, it was a tight contest up till the 68th minute when Arthurlie scored their 2nd goal. That sapped the energy out of our only eleven players' tired legs, while Arthurlie had a squad of 18 to choose from. Ten minutes later it was 5-0.

Good luck to Arthurlie, we have many mutual friends between the clubs at the moment and it was good to see a lot of people who I respect highly this evening.

Everything I said was true Peter

any idea why nets where no nets put up till very late also no names but Arthurlie connection arrived at pitch in afternoon was told that Glens where doing best to get game off as struggling to field a team big mistake they didn’t realise they part of Arthurlie 😀

Arthurlie could have scored 10 tonight nonsense to say a very close game,

Anyway good luck with rest of the season I think you will need with the fixtures you have still to play,

Also massive thanks to Arrhurlie supporters who turned up to support the teams and respect to Glens 5 commitee members and there massive support of 5 as well,

what a job Andy, Ryan,Palmer and all backroom that have built a new team and hopefully get 3 wins to get Arthurlie back to where they belong in top league

Players have been different class from the start

Even though this was a cup game Glencairns form seems to be spiralling out of control at the business end of the season.

The management team sign some amount of players over the course of a season and seem to struggle for consistency with a starting 11. Is a change in the dugout required?

Hopefully they stay up meaning a local derby against my team Cambuslang next season. All the best

AM-1 thank you for your best wishes and it's good to see Cambuslang Rangers being promoted to the Premier after quite a while in the lower leagues. As you say, hopefully we can stay up and create a derby match in the top league which hasn't happened for a long time.

I wouldn't say our form is spiralling, we were denied a win away to Clydebank by a 97th minute equaliser only a few days ago. Last night's result really has to be taken in context with the playing squad we had available, or rather the squad we didn't have available which I detailed on the other thread.

At the start of the season when everyone was looking at 7 teams going down, I think most observers (including ourselves) would have said that Glencairn would be candidates for being in that 7. The fact that we have stayed out of the drop zone all season till now is a huge credit to the players and management.

Only time will tell if we can finish the job, but it won't be through any lack of effort at the club. We are on the borderline of receiving approval for our National Club Licence which has taken an enormous effort by such a small committee, so if we get over the line on that and stay in the Premier it would be a quite unbelievable achievement for a club with our resources.

Just one final point on Gary's post - the nets at our stadium are permanently pinned onto the goal frame, they only need dropped and pinned into the ground. That was done at 6.15pm last night, over an hour before kick off and before the match referee arrived to inspect the pitch. I wouldn't exactly call that very late.

I enjoy reading all the threads and not trying to cause mischief.
Just beyond me that a couple of very soft patches on a pitch are deemed dangerous to players.
Bone hard pitches in May where you might skin your knee are more dangerous.
