Alloa vs Airdrie

Recommended Posts

Attended the game as a neutral and thought the Airdrie midfield 3 of Easton, Frizzell and Agnew were the main difference between the teams. They controlled the game when it was needed and broke well when they had the ball.

The home sides subs didn't seem to have the impact they would have hoped and Morrison was the busier keeper for most of the game.

Smith will get the headlines for his 2 goals (could've had his hattrick before going off) but Easton was my MOM. A class act, certainly at L1 level.

Easton is incredible, a real coup that we managed to pick him up last summer.

Thought we bossed the game really. Max made one or two great saves but otherwise wasn’t troubled. Easton and Frizzell just keep going and going while Agnew sat and let the game play in front of him. McCabe is a great asset, he talks and talks and talks and keeps the others in check I think.

Special mention to Calum Fordyce on his 100th appearance, the best defender I’ve seen in a Diamond since 2000. It would be a real statement of intent if we could sign up Fordyce, McCabe, Easton & Frizzell for next season. Think they could be a force even in the league above if we make it, if not they’re a great spine if we have to go again next season.

A win without preforming too well.

Plaudits to Callum but second was not one to shout about. Could have been three; and a few chances once he was replaced.

Think Alloa will be here again next season. Not threatened with the relegation spectre that was lurking for them.

Posted elsewhere but the turning points went our way with that exquisite Easton move and set up, and then a deflection. Alloa had better spells in first half and might have equalised on another day. Smith also might have scored earlier and it was a relief to kill the game with 2nd. I thought Niang was good but felt sorry for Taggart having to be moved all over the shop. Henderson not as influential as last time.

A much needed win today without being at our best but we didn't have to be great against a very passive Alloa side.

Massive 3 pints against a Alloa side who should offer much more than they do.. The midfield was functioning better this week Dylann and Frizz playing closer together,  biggest issue was up front Gal and Gabby were miles off it all game,   Gall has really played that way most of the season and Gabby who is a good impact player off the bench, struggled with the basics,  all day as that was up against a painfully slow centre back pairing in Graham and Durnan,    Afolabi and S McGill were an instant upgrade,   if we have any designs on promotion Murray needs to trust his signings,  we did not look like a potential league wining side on that performance,   this might be harsh big games coming up and big performances required also.....a good 3 points though.

Bit disappointing today and a drop off from last week. That said, there wasn't all that much in the game and in terms of chances it was pretty even. Had we taken a chance or two it would have been different. Airdrie more clinical and more settled and comfortable in their shape though and that was enough, good win for them.

Hard not to bring Henderson straight back in given his record and threat but think it actually made our attack less effective. Change of shape at half time was bold but backfired and we were more disjointed the longer it went on. We've now had Taggart at LCB, RCB and LB in last two games. He is a brilliant RB or RWB. Kevin Cawley and Adam King aren't. We were worse after the McIver change too, shape was gone entirely. Understand the manager is still assessing his team and that will take time, but there are some simple solutions to a few of these things. Basically, pick a formation that suits what you have and play the players in the positions where they can be most effective. So many changes through one game also rather worrying, but hopefully again that won't be a long term feature. On the positives, Cammy looked good after coming on.

Missed opportunity to some extent but Airdrie are a  very well drilled side with decent creative players. Just need to hope the manager has learned a bit more about his players and how he should be deploying them.

I thought we were definitely better and heading in the right direction. But it was mistake changing Sammon for Henderson. Henderson had some good touches but he was spreading himself too thin and didn't appear to have a defined role.

Not much in the game but Airdrie definitely a bit more street smart and quite impressive. In normal circumstances probably quite disappointed but given where we are right now probably still a step in the right direction. Thought Cawley was excellent. Hopefully the result doesn't derail the morale of the team. It wasn't great today but still we look more of a team than we did a month back.

Not the best we’ve played but a good 3 points for us today, thought the work rate and effort were there in abundance so maybe that’s what Murray meant in his post match interview.

Alloa missed a couple of chances and currie made a superb double save. Having said that it felt comfortable and we missed chances of our own with smith and afolabi.

Wasn’t overly confident going into it after the last game at the recs and was expecting a lot more from Euan Henderson. You can tell Alloa are only a couple of players away from being further up the table, I have no doubt they’ll pull away from the bottom.

Think Alloa should’ve had a penalty with McCabes handball but we could’ve had 4 last week so we’ll take it.

Thought Alloa’s stream and commentary were excellent, what a difference with the actual camera as well compared to the pixellot effort. Also the replays are a great addition. In comparison to Peterhead’s a few weeks ago it’s night and day, albeit its £8 more expensive, it’s well worth it

Lastly, I echo the congratulations for Dycey’s 100th game what a indispensable player and captain  he’s turned out to be for us… long may it continue.
