Well done Hearts. Unlucky Saints. Have to say as a Hearts fan was a bit pissed off when it went to 2 all. Quick goal by McEneff killed the comeback though.

There's a resilience about this Hearts team though that got us through. And that was by no means our best team. Lots of good players to come back.

Nowhere near the level of the bigot brothers yet but we will close this with FoH and James Anderson funding year on year.

This really is an enjoyable cup tie. Great goals from both sides.

Some comeback from St Mirren.

Think it is the Saturday night effect.

3-2 now. St Mirren fans must be going thru full range of emotions. Lucky break right enough.

Has the SPFL considered playing one Saturday night game on league days? Seems like it would bring the crowd/atmosphere/play?

Dundee played Aberdeen at 6pm on a Saturday in November last year. Thankfully everyone was so drunk they didn’t notice the shite game.

Great cup tie but deserved win for the Hearts.

Two great goals by SM though probably wouldn't have happened had Halliday not played.

Halkett and Boyce were class. Atkinson, McKay and Kingsley also superb. Woodburn and Simms a bit meh.

No complaints over the outcome. I thought we looked to passive going forward, especially after getting back into the game at 2-2.

At least i witnessed the goal of the season.

Good luck to Hearts in the next round. Aye that will be right - hope you get pumped.

Very different from the previous round where it’s quite hard to argue we actually deserved to progress

but easy to make a case that we didn’t deserve to go out quite as much as Livingston clearly did

The fact it was a cup tie added to the spectacle. If it had been a league game, our support would have probably been about half of what we took tonight.

Well at least we can say we gave it everything.

You just can't defend like that in a quarter final and expect to go through. Time for McCarthy to return.

Well done Jambos a well deserved victory. Now il be supporting anyone but the gruesome twosome to win the cup.

It's the hope that kills you. I thought the tie was dead after we went 2-0 down, and was ecstatic when we came back with an absolutely peach of a goal. I agree Hearts were the better side, but I'm still really disappointed. :(

Two teams that just totally went for it. Brilliant game.

Unfortunately though you cannot defend like that and expect a side like Hearts to do anything other than punish you. They could have scored another 2 and we couldn't have complained.

I'd add Baningime and Haring to the superb category and take away Atkinson.

Baningime seems to be back to his best after looking a bit jaded immediately pre- and post-injury. I'm sure that goal will be the first of many.

Atkinson did really well to set up the 3rd but he'll need to improve a lot defensively to make it here. We largely controlled the 2nd half but St Mirren had 2 flurries, the first one caused by Woodburn dribbling into the middle of the park and losing it (again) and the 2nd caused by Atkinson fannying around with a ball over the top to let Jones in, eventually leading to the 2nd goal. He had a good 2nd half going forward but ultimately defending is his primary job.

Not fixating on the negatives though as it was mostly a good performance and 2 of the weaker performers even produced good assists. The swap to 4-2-3-1 has really helped us to recover our form recently and we look far more threatening going forward. 3-4-3 suited us for a while but, inevitably, it got found out eventually and, frankly, the back 4 suits our players better. The strikers are thriving with more space, we're not relying on full-backs playing wing-back and, contrary to previous conventional wisdom, Halkett is fine in a 4 when his partner isn't Popescu or Berra.

As for yesterday's opponents, a tidy enough team who've now provided us with 9 league points and a trip to Hampden this season. St Mirren FC, thank you.
