What a weird time that was to be a kid. Getting engaged with all the jingoism around our territory being invaded, before finding out that it was all over a wee set of islands off the coast of the invading nation, virtually on the other side of the world.

I can't have been the only naïve youngster thinking, "why don't we just give it back to them?"

That makes it sound like the distance from Ballycastle to Rathlin Island.

To save anyone else the effort, Rathlin Island is six miles away from Ballycastle across the Sea of Moyle.

In Northern Ireland.

There are varying reports of the Ukrainian attacks around Kherson - it seems like the advances there are relatively slow.

In the Donbas Russians have entered Severodonetsk, which looks like it's been significantly destroyed.  From what anyone can tell advances from Popsana seem to have slowed down, possible that Russian forces are regrouping or resupplying.  Regarding the chat about journalists, there's a clip from a Russian channel showing their journalists filming and interviewing people, which is broken up by a shelling attack.  Given there have been attacks on and deaths of journalists in teh conflict so far I can see why news agencies are reluctant to send anyone to the front lines.

There has also been a car bomb attack on the head of the Russian appointed administration in Melitpol, no deaths reported.  There are various reports of resistence in occupied areas.  I saw one report that said Russian troops around Kherson have lost 70 soldiers to partisan warfare in Melitpol but obviously these reports are very hard to verify.  There are pictures of propaganda/psyops posters in Kherson and Melitpol aimed at Russian soldiers.  One thing that probably does verify resistance is that there are a lot of videos from the Russian appointed administration showing Ukrainians 'confessing' to various offences, including insulting Russian troops and assisting the enemy.  There videos are clearly forced and it's obvious some have been on the end of violence.

Here are some of the posters that have been photographed around Kherson and Melitopol

Good luck on your patrol, Friend", Kherson partisans still active - 9GAG

This one says "Good luck on your patrol friend".  Not sure what the top one says.

There have still been demonstrations against the Russian occuption in Kherson, these now tend to be broken up with stun grenades and shots fired on the crowds.

The top one's along the lines of "We know all the routes you take on patrol. Kherson is Ukraine."

That's it, I'm  changing sides. If they can't keep it civil they don't deserve my support.

For all the talk about new weapons being promised, Ukrainian soldiers aren't seeing them on the front lines in the Donbas at the moment.

This probably reflects the time it takes to recieve, process the new weapons and send them to the front.  There's a lot of announcements of support but the time taken for these things to make a difference is clearly significant.

The supplies are drying up.

Doubts about US MRLS again.

Some of the stuff that gets posted on twitter is comic:

Odds on the Mykolaivka being referred to is actually here at the very northern end of the area shown as being under Russian control:

but let's fire off a tweet that defies common sense rather than spending a minute or two looking for other Mykolaivkas.

Suspect it's actually the latter and the Americans weren't keen on having the Ukrainians taking potshots at the Kerch Bridge or airfields deep within Russian territory rather than going after targets in the Donbas so are not going to supply the longer range missiles that are compatable with the MLRS systems. If the Ukrainians get the 70 km range stuff sounds like it could still make a significant difference.
