You can pick any colour you want min, it's just the meteor is twice the price of the aim120(brexit innit blud).

Figured the EU would hold a three MiGs for the price of two sale on Meteor. On a more serious note, since Meteor hasn’t seen actual combat, and the AIM-120 has (in various versions), I would expect that MBDA would be absolutely wetting themselves at the idea of getting some Meteors into Ukrainian hands and splashing some missiles and MiGs. Given the huge impact of cruise and SRBM missiles in this conflict, and the expectation this style of missile use will reoccur going forward, the possible future sales for a proven effective anti-missile missile are immense.

I'd hazard a guess the reason they won't give any current frontine bvr weapon to Ukr is that the west would rightly be wetting themselves at the mere thought of Russia and arguably more importantly China getting their hands on the tech.

Of course the state of the ongoing situation in Ukr will dictate how long that remains the case.

The need to showcase or prove the tech wouldn't be a high priority imho, every country and their dog would be sending the takemymoney.gif for either weapon regardless.

Reports on Russian Telegram channels that the Ivan Khurs was hit with two drones, three were destroyed. The ship has been severely damaged and is still in danger of sinking. If saved it will take up to a year to repair, severely degrading Russian naval capabilities.

Six Russian sailors were killed - two were blown overboard by the impact and four died internally, including at least one officer.

They don't need to give Ukraine the high end stuff.  They're overmatching the Russians with surplus NATO stock and life end missiles.

I'd disagree.

Russian ground based layered air defence systems contrary to what you may think are extremly potent and are plentiful.

Whilst true the Ukr has managed to open avenues of attack into Ru controlled airspace with the help of AGM88 harm (old stuff) the mere presence of these air defence systems force Ukr to fly predominantly low level missions while Ru aircraft can fly at altitude protected by the aforementioned AD systems which in turn gives Ru pilots a massive effective range superiority.

The tl;dr I suppose is if you think you can achieve your overall objectives whilst Ru has air superiority have at it. I personally think it imperative that they don't have it and therefore the need for "new stuff" is very much required.

Thread on Russian Rosguardia members injured early in the war getting refused medical help by Russian authorities. Sent in to take over law enforcement in cities that were presumed to be taken early, their columns were smashed up. Other Rosguardia (basically SWAT police units) were severely hammered in the counter offensive around Kharkiv last year.

Russia has warned Western supplies of weapons to Ukraine risk escalating the war to levels not seen so far.

Andrei Kelin, Russia's ambassador to the UK, told the BBC his country had "enormous resources" and it was yet to "act very seriously".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-65720980

f**k up ya dick. You've lost 200,000 soldiers, most of your armour, loads of your air force and the flagship of your fleet was sunk by a country without a navy. Russia's been shown for what it is, a limp-dicked bully whose only credible threat against the West is the nuclear arsenal it can never use.

Insisting Russia "hasn't just started yet to act very seriously", the ambassador said "Russia is 16 times bigger than Ukraine. We have enormous resources."

And NATO is multiple times bigger than a country with an economy the size of Italy. Get tae f**k ya snivelling toadie.

Yea, and if we wanted to, we could give a couple of hundred thousand gun owners a free flight to Kyiv and tell them those Rooskies want to take their AR-15’s (3 million in private hands in the U.S.). It’s a fair bet they’ll have all fired more practice rounds than those Russian troops in the last few years, and I’ll bet they could find a ride to the front.

They wouldn’t last five minutes in Ukraine.

Not a huge loss…but I suspect they’d be useful clearing a minefield.

They'd shit themselves, it would be the first time anything fired back.

True enough, the ones that survived would be, perhaps, a bit more cautious.

It’s amusing how they all have big talk about protection from a tyrannical government, but don’t realize just having a weapon doesn’t magically do that by itself. There is however a little nugget in this thought that perhaps explains some of the Russian issues. Less than one in ten Russians will have been exposed to, or experienced firing, a gun when they join the Russian armed forces. That’s at least a few additional weeks of training for Russian conscripts, which makes the rapid appearance of new conscripts at the front even more f**ked up than previously considered.

Without the civilian experience with firearms, there is perhaps a kernel of a reason for recruiting more heavily from the rural Russian population (other than those espoused elsewhere), where hunting and use of firearms is more common. The absurdity of my earlier statement is equal to that of the Russian spokesperson, and was intended as such.
