Wonder if it's more to do with propoganda after the whole "Russian warship go f**k yourself" it's become a symbol of Ukrainian resistance hence Russia seemingly willing to sacrifice loads of troops to hold on to it till now.

Think surface-to-air missiles and radar there were making it difficult for Ukrainians to fly aircraft as far off as across their southern coast. Previously the Moskva had that function but after it sank they tried to use Snake Island instead.

Time to start the Russian invasion of Albania thread, methinks. b46bfc2f375296ab7cef72ad148d7bfc.jpg

Have you found out why they have the "NAZI" name? Found another one in Albania through google and am curious if it has different historical resonance out there or just means something different.

It's just a male name, more common in the north and Kosovo. In Georgia it's a female name.

The Russian Air Force are apparently bombing Snake Island now, presumbly to destroy any equipment left over.

Maybe they found out one of their soldiers went awol on the island.

I think the point is the island is indefensible. It's in a strategic position but it's just a lump of rock with nowhere to hide. Both sides can attack it at will, neither side can defend it.

Maybe but the propaganda value of pictures of a Ukrainian flag being raised will be difficult to resist. Some of the weapons the Ukrainians could land by speedboat easily enough like Stingers might be easier to keep safe than weaponry like the Pantsir system that the Russians had installed if there are any bunkers left intact on the island.

You put a flag up on it then.
