Increasing talk that Finland will apply for NATO membership within weeks. Sweden likely to look to join the alliance soon too.

That would be quite something, given how the Finnish have been nervous about joining for years due to aggressive Russian talk their way about it.

A long, but very interesting, read on why Russians think and act the way they do.

I got the link from a Russian citizen on a defencen forum He thinks it's very accurate.

Interesting. Can be summarised as "Russians love the whip"

Quite liked - "The global recession is not really a problem for Russia since they are in a recession all the time anyway."

“We have to recognise that the old concepts of fighting big tank battles on European land mass are over.”

Aye, it was odd messaging from Johnson. On the one hand he committed to cutting the number of MBTs, on the other he also committed to a massive upgrade to the remaining fleet - they are basically going to be new tanks (new gun, new optics, new armour in a whole new turret and a new powerpack)

I get the impression that the British Army knows better, well enough but it had other priorities it needed to take care of in the short term - and in fairness a lot of those priorities are being borne out by what we are seeing (an emphasis on new artillery, more, longer ranged rocket and missile artillery... drones and persistent surveillance - a whole new comms network to provide better situational awareness)

You still need tanks to provide mobility and to take ground. The question is now whether future tanks still look like current ones, or will there be radical changes to layout in the light of how modern guided munitions can attack them?
