MIDLANDS LEAGUE GAME 9 - 29/09/21

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 3  COUPAR ANGUS 0

A comfortable win for Broughty with once again plenty goal scoring chances created and 3 good goals scored.

However some simple chances was missed shockingly and the scoreline should have been greater.

However Coupar Angus had a few pretty decent chances of their own and but for a wondersave in stoppage time would have had a consolation to at least celebrate.

But in the end the win was comfortable as expected though.

Next up is the 2nd Round of the Inter Regional Cup at home to Lochee United which should be a very good game.

MATCH PREVIEW - NORTH AND TAYSIDE INTER REGIONAL CUP

LOCHEE UNITED (H) 02/10/21

Well this promises to be a very good cup tie with both sides in excellent form going into this tie

Hosts Broughty with 8 wins and 1 draw in 9 league games.

Visitors Lochee with a  100% record in the league.

Hopefully a very competitive and attacking 90 minutes to come between these 2 sides.

Ref for the game is Grant Irvine

He was not selected for the 1s Round and has not handled Broughty so far this season.

Or if he has then certainly not in recent games.

TAYSIDE AND NORTH INTER REGIONAL CUP 2ND ROUND - 02/10/21

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 1  LOCHEE UNITED 2

A disappointing outcome in this cup tie with a poor performance despite the number of shots shown as created as the majority came in the last 15-20 minutes.

Lochee United was by far the more aggressive and creative side for long spells and thoroughly deserved to go 2 ahead and it could and probably should have been more.

The late goal came to late to be more than a consolation but its fair to Lochee would have been hard done by had thus been taken to extra time.

A rare poor performance and one that needs to be removed from the system quickly.

The match stats definitely lie in this case.

The only fortunate aspect is it was a cup tie and not in the league.

Up next for Broughty is a trip to Dundee St James in the league at Fairfield Park and a vast improvement is demanded against the hosts who lie in 16th place .

MATCH PREVIEW - MIDLANDS LEAGUE GAME 10

DUNDEE ST JAMES (A) 08/10/21

TEAMS  LEAGUE FORM OVER LAST GAMES

DUNDEE ST JAMES - LEAGUE POS 16TH

P 5 W 1 D 2 L 2 F 8 A 9 GD -1 PTS 5

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC - LEAGUE POS 2ND

P 5 W 5 D 0 L 0 F 13 A 0 GD +13 PTS 15

After defeat in the Inter Regional Cup last time out its back to league action in this game.

On recent form this should be a comfortable win for Brought how are flying on recent games on the league with plenty goals being scored and at the moment a fantastic defensive record.

St James on the other hand are struggling to get a run of form going and have only taken 5 points from the last 15 available but they have scored 8 goals in those 5 games so the defense can not afford to be sloppy but 9 conceded shows they are leaky as well though and that can be exploited.

For the second game in a row Grant Irvine is the ref and hopefully his performance is vastly better than the one against Lochee United which was woeful.

MIDLANDS LEAGUE GAME 10 - 09/10/21

DUNDEE ST JAMES 0  BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 2

A fine return to winning ways in this Midlands League match after the defeat to Lochee United at home in the Inter Regional Cup last time out.

This was a very, very good away performance at a struggling side with numerous chances created over the 90 minutes, while very comfortable defensively.

This really should have been a far greater winning margin than 2 goal given how dominating the performance was but it has to be said Broughty did have a goal ruled out on the stroke of ht for a foul only the ref actually saw.

On to next Saturday now and the Junior Scottish Cup round 3 visit of Larkhall Thistle to Whitton Park.

Match Preview - Junior Scottish Cup 3rd Round

Larkhall Thistle (H) - 16/10/21

Team League Records

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC

MIDLANDS LEAGUE

P 10 W 9  D 1  L 0  F 26  A 3 GD +23 PTS 28 POS 2ND

LARKHALL THISTLE

WEST REGION CONFERENCE C

P 5 W 2 D 3  L 0  F 6  A 2  GD +4  PTS 9  POS 5TH

A decent cup tie looks to be in wait at Whitton Park when these 2 sides meet with both unbeaten in their respective leagues although Larkhall have played fewer and shown to be more inconsistent in results.

In terms of regional cups Broughty failed to make head way in the  Tayside - North Regional Cup losing out to Lochee United on r2.

For Larkhall the West Regional Cups likewise have provided little joy losing in the 1st round of the Strathclyde Cup, the 1st round of the South Challenge Cup and the 1st round of the WoS League Cup.

The Junior Scottish Cup therefore is the one remaining avenue of cup glory for both.

The route to the 3rs round of the Junior Scottish Cup is as follows for both.

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC

R1 Awarded a bye

R2 v Dundee Violet (h) 4-2

LARKHALL THISTLE

R1 v Kello Rovers (A) 2-0

R2 v Scone Thistle (H) 0-0 (AET) Larkhall win 5-4 on penalties.

Ref is Alan Newlands

This is his first Junior Scottish Cup tie handled this season.

JUNIOR SCOTTISH CUP R3 - 16/10/21

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 3  LARKHALL THISTLE 0

A very comfortable win over the West Region visitors and indeed the scoreline should have been more emphatic in a game the hosts controlled for the 90 minutes.

Yes the visitors had a few chances but they posed little threat and the few saves needed by the Broughty keeper was routine.

Broughty scored 3 nice goals and also had a 4th ruled out for offside late on as they posed a big threat through out and the Larkhall keeper had a few very good saves to keep the score down.

All in all a very pleasing performance by the home side to reach the 4th round draw of the competition.

So next time out  back its back to league action a week on Wednesday away to Scone Thistle.

However a friendly may be arranged to fill in the free weekend next week.

FRIENDLY - 23/10/11

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 4  MONIFIETH TAYSIDE 1

This was a rotated squad to give a lot of those who are not regular starters more game time against local amateur opposition.

The first half was a dour affair with limited goalmouth action, while the second half was dominated by Broughty and the big scoreline reflects that domination.

A decent run out for those who needed it.

Midweek sees a return to league action with a trip to Scone Thistle.

MATCH REVIEW - MIDLANDS LEAGUE GAME 11

SCONE THISTLE (A) - 27/10/21

LAST 5 LEAGUE GAMES RECORD

SCONE THISTLE - POSITION 16TH

P 5  W 1  D 1  L 3  F 6  A 7 GD -1  PTS 4

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC - POSITION 2ND

P 5  W 5  D 0  L 0  F 12  A 0  GD +12  PTS 15

On current form the trip to Scone should be a relatively comfortable win against a struggling side but there is always the danger that is taken for granted and complacency sets in resulting in a unexpectedly unwelcome result.

Despite their struggles Scone will not be underestimated as dropping points due to such reasons is not acceptable.

With Lochee United also in excellent form any dropped points could make playing catch up very difficult.

MIDLANDS LEAGU GAME 11 - 27/10/21

SCONE THISTLE 0  BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 2

In the end this was a deserved win having dominated both possession and chances but a frustrating aspect was for all the chances made only a few would be on target as the finishing quality was not good enough on the night.

Scone themselves offered very little in the way of a goal threat but they did make it an awkward physical affair with a number of harsh challenges and at times the ref struggle to keep control of them.

However the 3 points are very welcome as it closes the gap to Lochee United to 2 points again with both teams level on games played.

One sour note is that young winger Ross Strath was stretchered off with a fractured toe as a result of a bad challenge and will be out for a few weeks.

Arbroath Vics home in 10 days time in the league is next.

A home friendly at the free weekend is to be arranged with opponents to be confirmed shortly.
