The Junior Scottish Cup R2 draw has been made and a very favourable draw in the shape of Dundee Violet at home has been received.

A tie that should be a win at home.

As decent as Violet maybe there was certainly tougher draws that could have been received.

MIDLANDS LEAGUE GAME 3 - 18/08/21

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 1 DUNDEE NORTH END 1

A very fortunate point was taken from this encounter in the end after a very poor showing over the 90 minutes from Broughty.

North End dominated proceedings and should have won comfortably in the end and indeed but for a missed penalty would have taken a deserved 3 points.

However an equaliser just after going down to 10 men saw Broughty grab an undeserved point in the end, much to the frustration of the visitors undoubtedly.

A vast improvement is needed in future performances as this one was unacceptable.

Next up for Broughty is the league trip  north to Brechin Vics.

MIDLANDS LEAGUE GAME 4 - 21/08/21

BRECHIN VICS 1 BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 5

A very welcome away win after the poor performance against North End but the game was not as one sided as the scoreline suggest by any means and Brechin Vics had a number of decent opportunities in the game.

The pleasing aspect was the very efficient finishing on show which helped earn this big away win although there was a couple of sitters missed.

Brechin had a goal disallowed for offside right on ht at 3-0 down so who knows how things would have changed if that had stood.

All in all have to be very pleased to go away from home and enjoy a big win like that.

No fixtures for 3 weeks now so might look to use a couple free weekends to arrange friendly games to avoid a large gap between games.

Friendly - 28/08/21

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 2 KINOULL 1

An interesting first half as Kinoull started the brighter of the 2 teams and deservedly took an early lead, this was a wake up call for a lethargic Broughty who came to life and started to look threatening and deservedly scored twice to turn things around.

However Kinoull had a couple of good chances to level in very quick succession before ht but failed to capitalise fortunately.

The second half was pretty much total domination by Broughty with a lot of good chances made but wasted while Kinnoull was limited to a couple of weak efforts from distance.

Next up is a second successive friendly due to the break in the fuxture list this away to Forth Wanderers.

FRIENDLY - 04/09/21

FORTH WANDERERS 0  BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 4

A fantastic performance and very comfortable win at Forth Wanderers which is pleasing.

Very dangerous going forward and some nice goals scored, while enjoying a very comfortable 90 minutes defensively.

Back to action in the Midlands League next weekend when Kirrie Thistle are visitors to Whitton Park.

MIDLANDS LEAGUE GAME 5 - 11/09/21

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 3  KIRRIE THISTLE 0

In the end a very comfortable looming scoreline but one which does not tell the full story.

First half was complete control by Broughty and 3 at half time could have been double without complaint as Kirrie only really had a couple chances without troubling the keeper.

Second half say Kirrie vastly improved and they created a number if good chances but failed to find a way through.

Broughty did have a handful of decent openings in the second half but were on the defensive a lot more.

A very good win overall though to keep pressure on the top 2 of Lochee United and Forfar United given Broughty have a game in hand.

The midweek fixture card brings a league away game at Forfar West End.

MIDLANDS LEAGUE GAME 6 - 15/09/21

FORFAR WEST END 0  BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 2

Simply put total, total domination by Broughty resulting in as easy a 2-0 scoreline as you can ask for.

Plenty opportunities created by the visitors, while on the other hand hists Forfar West End failed to muster up even 1 single shot on target.

A fantastic away performance.

The Junior Scottish Cup R2 tie at home to Dundee Violet is up next on the Saturday and a tougher game is expected.

Next up is the Junior Scottish Cup 2nd Round tie at home to fellow Midlands League side Dundee Violet at Whitton Park.

Ahead of kick off a comparison of the 2 sides league record so far.

Broughty Athletic

P 6 W 5 D 1 L 0 F 16 A 3 GD +13 PTS 16 POSITION 2ND

DUNDEE VIOLET

P 6 W 3 D 1 L 2 F 14 A 12 GD +2 PTS 10 POSITION 9TH

Violet have certainly been more inconsistent in results but need to be watched carefully as they have a decent goals for so far.

Defensively 12 conceded so not great and that weakness of 2 conceded per game on average is hopefully one to be exploited.

Of course in a cup tie is unwise to fully rely on league records as time and time again surprise results do crop up.

JUNIOR SCOTTISH CUP R2 - 18/09/21

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 4  DUNDEE VIOLET 2

This was an entertaining second game which saw Brought deservedly progress into the 3rd round draw for the Scottish Cup.

The first half was a fairly even affair which saw Broughty lead by 2-1 at half time but in truth Violet probably deserved to be level at the break.

However Broughty dominated the 2nd half and deservedly went on to add a 3rd but a horror mistake at the back allowed Violet back into it late on.

Fortunately the 2 goal lead was restored a few minutes later to seal the win but there was time for some more late drama as Iolet thought the had scored a 3rd in stoppage time only for offside to be given against the visitors.

A very good win for Brought with good entertainment for the fans in this game.

Next up for Brought is the midweek league game at home to East Cragie.

A home win that should be a win for Broughty should the performance be good against an East Cragie side that had been rather inconsistent in form.

The inconsistent makes it awkward to no what to expect from them although 3 wins in there last 5 is not too bad although losing the other 2 is unhelpful for them.

Interesting there record is they win or lose bar on a single occasion so far.

MIDLANDS LEAGUE GAME 7 - 22/09/21

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 4  EAST CRAGIE 0

A very emphatic win for Broughty against an East Cragie side that put in a very poor performance.

Broughty very comfortable through out the 90 minutes and could and should have scored a lot more with the chances created.

Defensively very solid although playing against a toothless attack that lacked bite and the few chances faced offered no real danger.

As comfortable a 3 points as you would like on the night.

A very interesting and far tougher game awaits at the weekend in the shape of a trip to 4th placed Carnoustie Panmure.

CARNOUSTIE PANMURE (A) 25/09/21

CARNOUSTIE PAMURE LEAGUE RECORD

P7  W 5  D 1  L 1  F 18  A 6 GD +12 PTS 16 POS 4TH

FORM LAST 5 GAMES

A very tough away game is expected against a very much inform Carnoustie side who have been impressive in the early weeks.

A decent scoring threat going forward with 18 goals in 7 games and a solid enough defense with just 6 conceded in 7 suggests that they should not be dismissed lightly especially as they are on fine current form.

However Broughty are also in very good form as well and should have no fear about visiting Laing Park in what should be a good game.

Hopefully a decent attendance is present to see to sides in very good form.

Referee for this is Graham Grainger.

This is his first Midlands game of the season.

MIDLANDS LEAGUE GAME 8 - 22/09/21

CARNOUSTIE PANMURE 0  BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 1

An important win to put pressure on Lochee Utd who did not play as it was their free week this round of fixtures.

It allowed the gap to Lochee United to be cut from 5 points to 2.

Also results with the teams below meant the win was important to stay ahead of them.

The first half was dire with very little action of note until pretty much the winner for Broughty went in a moment of quality in a forgettable first half.

Broughty vastly improved and had several  chances to kill the game off but failed to take them and the wastefulness fortunately went unpunished.

Carnoustie had a few half chances in the final 5-10 minutes but none of them had any serious threat to concern the Broughty defense or keeper.

Next up for Broughty Athletic is the league game against Coupar Angus at Whitten Park midweek.

MATCH PREVIEW -MIDLANDS LEAGUE

COUPAR ANGUS (H) - 29/09/21

COUPAR ANGUS LEAGUE RECORD

P 8 W 4  D 2  L 2  F 18  A 15 GD +3  PTS 14  POS 7TH

FORM LAST 5 GAMES

W W L L W

Coupar Angus are having a decent start lying 7th after the first 8 games and come into the midweek meeting with Broughty on the back of an entertaining 5-3 win over bottom side Brechin Vic which ended a 2 match losing streak.

They look a decent side but in all truth this is a game the Broughty should win comfortably at home to keep the strong league start going.

Coupar Angus have shown they know the way to goals netting 18 times in the 8 league games so far so they have that threat.

Defensively they appear suspect at times and 15 conceded in those 8 games shows that.

Will a high scoring thriller be on the cards at Whitton Park?

Should add ref Gavin Ross is handling his 3rd Midlands League game but the first involving Broughty.
