Gordon Brown pretended to be a Raith fan when New Labour came along.

Isn't there a member of Coldplay who claims to be a Raith fan?

Was New Labour a thing 60 years ago?

Feels like it! Anyway, he did an interview in the Dunfermline press when first elected saying how he only liked rugby as a youngster and wasn’t interested in football but if pressed he’d have to say he supported Raith because of where he was representing. Obvious it was in the Dunfermline paper as at the time the Kirkcaldy one only covered the ice hockey.

If we are talking about politicians pretending to be Presbyterians for electoral purposes, the absolute GOAT is this guy, who claims he's a Presbyterian.  Not sure how many Wee Frees have three divorces and have run casinos but who am I to say?

I'm not convinced that he's ever read a book.

Aye she’s Free Church of Scotland - same as me.

Same with Blackford, although his actions suggest differently.

As for bashing bibles; that tends to damage the cover.  You’re more likely to find us Wee Frees handling them with great care.  A quick polish post-sermon isn’t unheard of either.

What's your favourite book of the bible? I was always a fan of Revelation (as revealed to St. John the divine - not to be confused with Ian St. John)

She's a Free Presbyterian, I think.

I'm think, in fact I know, that her religious convictions are genuine but it isn't a bad career move for a politician in the Highlands to be a Wee Free.  I'm sure Blackford began attending Free Church services around the time of his election.

I've attended services of most denominations, but I don't think I would switch for political reasons, theological perhaps. But then I'm not a politician.

Maybe he was talking about playing rather than watching?

(Wee) Free Presbyterians and Presbyterian are different denominations.

In fact, are not Free Presbyterians and the the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland different denominations?

Then you have Reformed Presbyterian and Non-Subscribing Presbyterian (alas, not in the sense of not having a collection, as I hoped), it gets a bit crowded on the Presbyterian wing of the reformed faith.

Revelation pickles my head :D

I'm a fan of the Wisdom Literature i.e. Proverbs/Ecclesiastes/Job - particularly ecclesiastes.  Without getting too deep, it reminds me to be humble, how to live my life and gives me a sense of peace.

^^^Bible John.

Seems 6 SNP MSPs actually went against the SNP and voted against it.
SNP folks thinking for themselves is a rarity, but I'm glad it happened here.

Figures.

Is she not a mad bible basher?  She would definitely vote against the bill IMO.

I dunno, she's senior enough to have a tilt at it when Sturgeon goes. Is likely the de facto front runner. Possibly the only runner when Sturgeon goes. I doubt she'd poison the well with the rest of the elected party for a matter of mere conscience.

I'm fairly ambivalent to the gender recognition bill itself but I do question why the Scottish government thought it would be a good idea to bring in such a divisive bill when they were just about to go for indyref2. It seems a strange time to be splitting people along culture war lines when they need everyone to be more unified.

So far the SNP have run quite a tight ship in terms of party discipline, so this is the wrong time to be infighting.

I kinda understand why you say this as there is a huge amount of (RW) media construct at play re Trans Rights / toilets and other nonsense.......but I still cant get my head round the idea that the Scottish Govt legislating - in order that people can live their life with the freedom I take for granted - is in any way divisive, or part of some culture war.

People who think this is " a bad law" are probably the same kind of people who say "I support LGBTQ++ rights, but they should probably keep quiet if they go to Qatar"................

n.b. none of thats a pop at you

On this point, I can see where James Cleverley is coming from. As Foreign Secretary he has a responsibility for the safety of British tourists traveling abroad. So here what he said was really to try to reduce the chances of visitors to Qatar causing offence which could lead to violence/imprisonment etc. Respect the local laws is standard advice for anyone traveling abroad.

The real scandal is the WC being held in Qatar in the first place. Or anywhere with such outdated, draconian laws. Fifa must have known that gay fans would go to this -  what did they expect? Just sportswashing. Even with so many migrant deaths in preparing for the WC, we'll have Gary Lineker plastered over our TV for weeks grinning his head off. I am so glad Scotland is boycotting this.

FIFA could not give less of a f**k about gay fans. Not that they (FIFA) are deliberately homophobic, more that they don't care about such things as human rights as long as they get fuckloads of cash.

I genuinely believe Scotland should have boycotted it and should have refused to take part in the qualification games.
