Yeah Yeah Yeah's at 8 tracks long is short, but very sweet. More electronics than guitars. How smooth is Karen O's voice though? A very good offering.

Agree wholeheartedly. An excellent album. I actually think it benefits from being so short and sharp. No filler at all. Loving it.

Really enjoying the new album from Little Big Town ‘Mr Sun’. Widely regarded as a ‘modern country’ band, there’s more than a hint of Motown on a few of the songs, and their harmonies, oh my goodness. The combination of Karen Fairchild, Kimberley Schlappman, Philip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook’s voices. Sublime.

New Afghan Whigs LP is way better than it has any right to be, especially given most of it was literally phoned in and assembled over lockdown. 'Domino & Jimmy' is a proper duet between Dulli & Marcy Mays; lots of theories it might be about the couple she sang about on 'My Curse' and that they've come good. I hope it is. Greg Dulli writing feelgood songs, who'da thunk it.

Don’t think Arctic Monkeys’ “The Car” will tempt folk who didn’t like TQBHAC, and I actually find it a bit frontloaded. No bad songs on the second half: just not as strong as the first half. 7.5/10.

A useful review, that confirms I will not be wasting my time on yet more of that bizarre, lounge room dross 'genre' they're trying to create now.

Alex Turner and Matt Bellamy seem to be competing with each other in getting a perfectly good band to disappear up their own rectum as often as possible, rather than just producing a fucking tune.

Another Alex Turner solo album featuring some more elevator music. He’s trying too hard to be David Bowie. Shame on the rest of the bad really because they are great. Matt Helders is especially an excellent drummer.

I do find it a bit telling that it’s only ever Turner and Helder mostly giving the interviews; was the same for the last album. Could be wrong but all the radio interviews I’ve listened/watched it’s just been those two.

Money + coke x ego = bad music. It’s a tale as old as, well, coke.

Can’t really see Turner replicating station to station era Bowie though…

I maintain Turner’s best work is his OST for the film “Submarine”. You can see the genius in his song writing; Christ, you can ALMOST see it in the last 2 AM albums, but just use some more actual music.

I feel like this conversation comes up every time the Arctic Monkey release a new album (apart from maybe AM because they had two or three songs on that which felt like throwbacks to the first album*). A large chunk of people won't be happy until they're back writing a second "Mardy Bum".

I liked Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. It was fun. They embraced a total change of direction and it mostly worked.  This new one has some highlights, and other parts that don't quite hit the mark. It's not terrible; it's not brilliant. There are better albums this year and that's okay.

*And despite that, Mad Sounds and No 1 Party Anthem were probably my favourite two songs on the album.

Also agree with this. They aren’t the same wee dafties just fresh out of Sheffield. They’ve had their “huge” album in the shape of AM, all the way back in 2013. I’m all for Tranquility base and The Car, I don’t hate them at all, but surely there’s a way to make it not seem like Alex Turner solo projects? In saying that; “The Ultracheese” is probably my favourite Arctic monkeys song so, who knows.

“I ain’t quite where I think I am” is a funky as f**k tune, almost silk sonic-esque; it feels like it’s building, then just ends. Fair does, it leads to “Sculpture of anything goes” which sounds like it could have been on AM. It’s frustrating; the extraordinary talent is still there, it’s just not getting utilised efficiently.
