Mo V Alloa

Recommended Posts

Pretty scrappy game but draw the fair result. We just couldn't get anything going today. Alloa looked pretty decent when they played the ball on the deck but  persisted on punting the ball up to the big donkey Sammon. Euan Henderson looked pretty sharp, far improved from when we had him. Impressed with the contribution of Simpson and Gardyne so look forward to seeing them knit into the team in the coming weeks. Bit of a blow to our title aspirations but keeps the unbeaten run going.

Massive game next week up at Cove.

Draw was a fair result. Second half tailed off a bit, but the first was a really decent watch from both teams.

Some good passages of play from Alloa and a marked improvement on the Airdrie game. Still not quite there, disjointed in places and played long and aimless a bit too frequently. But certainly better all round.

Sammon was really effective, caused Montrose backline problems all game. If only he was a better finisher, but won a lot of high balls and got us into good positions working forward. Boyd was good, pretty dangerous but again a wee bit too greedy at times, losing possession when the ball could be played. A few neat touches and turns of pace from Henderson too.

Gardyne slotted in well for Montrose. Some great deliveries from set pieces, which is never a bad thing to have in your team. Montrose looked good again- pretty well balanced, liked the look of Simpson too. Why did Callaghan not start? His equaliser was a pearler and he made a real impact second half.

Montrose seemed to target the left flank as an Alloa weak point, but Robertson dealt with it really well filling in at right back. Easy to take Robbos role in the team for granted, a big player for Alloa.

Our full backs rarely go forward. The odd overlap would be nice, and the one time we really did it today, Robbos delivery was perfect and we scored. Church I don't think crossed the halfway line all game.

Due to our bad form in last couple of months, we need wins not draws to climb the table. But it was an improved performance and hopefully a step in the right direction.

A fair point a piece, thought the first half was a decent watch but the game became very pedestrian after halftime.

Was fearing the worst with Taggs not playing yesterday, but Robbo was as dependable as always filling in. Kind of felt a bit for Church on the other side as Henderson is far too lazy playing the wide role so Church was left with no help from him tracking back.

Thought Sammon did enough yesterday, although his finishing is so tame. I’ve noticed that watching him during warm ups before games when they move on to shooting, Boyd/Cawley/Scougall etc hammer shots in whereas everything from him is weak. Will say he was a bit unfortunate in the first half as there were 2 or 3 times where he drifted off his marker in to good positions but a final ball through to him was lacking.

Both goals were excellent, a flowing team move for us and a superb strike for Montrose. Was pleased to see the back of Simpson, he played well all game and looks a proper handful for defenders. I felt the threat from Montrose really diminished after he went off.
