jamamafegan
We’re at the halfway point of the season and it’s now time to start speculating over what the fate of the bottom side will be come the end of the season. Cowdenbeath sit 10 points adrift after Elgin City’s dramatic last minute winner today. How hopeful are Cowden fans that they can claw themselves back to safety? Are Elgin fans now confident of safety or is there still a lingering fear they may yet arse it up? The bottom side will of course enter the play-off. Bonnyrigg Rose are runaway leaders at the summit of the Lowland League and look in a good position to finish top. Things are currently a bit tighter in the Highland League. Several teams still very much in a title race in the HL. How are Cowden fans feeling about the prospect of facing one of these sides in a play-off? Cowden survived a play-off against East Kilbride several years ago - it looks like they’ll have to do it try and do it again this season.

Beat East Kilbride in 2017 and Cove Rangers in 2018, the Blue Brazil are the ultimate survivors in this game. Bonnyrigg will give them a good go though, and from the outside looking in they look favourites over Cowden and whoever the HL can provide as opposition.
Scotty Tunbridge
Will be looking out my dancing shoes for Cowden’s grave if this is the season we finally get rid of them
iateallthepies
Eighteen games left and I reckon Cowdenbeath would have to win eleven of them to avoid finishing bottom. Not impossible but we would need some quality signings who would have to hit the ground running.
Neilly
Dick Campbell has taken a part time team to top of the Championship for Christmas so anything is possible in football but I would be amazed if Cowdenbeath don't finish bottom. Everything now depends on Mo's recruitment obviously but they would really need 5 or 6 incoming players of considerable quality to make a fist of things. The current squad is a mile off what is required and the gap is more likely to increase than decrease at the end of the season if they were to run with this squad until the end of the season. For Cowden fans though there must be a glimmer of hope that Ross is not going to take the job unless there was some kind of assurances of scope for getting a decent amount of new bodies through the door. Even if they do finish bottom I would hardly fear playing Bonnyrigg or a Highland League mob. Neither are going to be a Kelty Hearts. They have beaten stronger sides in the play off games before IMO so no reason they couldn't do it again if Ross has them at least an improved outfit by the end of the season.
leomessi1984
Bonnyrigg may not be as glamorous as a Kelty or Cove but they are a bit of a winning machine. I'd fancy them over Cowden but as shown before the play offs can be unpredictable!
Neilly
Kelty or Cove aren't glamorous either. Just diddy clubs paying wild wages.

Suppose if as expected you win the league it will be one more than Stenny. In the eyes of the main stream media etc everyone outside the Glasgow two are regarded as diddies.

Allegedly. Edited January 5, 2022 by Am Featha Taigh Nan Clach

Struggling to see the logic here. By 'stronger sides' you mean Cove and EK. In 2016-17 Bonnyrigg knocked Cove out of the Scottish, a year before Cowden beat them in the playoffs. So are Bonnyrigg, currently romping the LL, significantly weaker now, or what?
jamamafegan
That’s a big win for Cowden today to close the gap to 9 points.

I’ve seen Cowdenbeath a couple of times this season along with a few other teams in the division. Actually astonished they’re adrift as they’re far from the worst team in the league. If they convert even a fraction of the chances they create it could be an interesting battle.

Vodka Vic
Consistency is the name of yhe game. Always thought at the start of the season that Cowden had a decent squad , also there are very fine margins in the Division as a whole with the exception of Kelty. The only other two teams that have nailed any sort of consistency is Forfar and Annan- everyone else striving for the same.
