Darts commentator John Gwynne checks out at T15 D16.

Genuinely sad about this one, he was absolutely one of the definitive voices of darts and was also a regular on Soccer Saturday for 20+ years.

Week 28 update

Three deaths this week. Up first is "influential theatre visionary" Peter Brook: Peter Brook, influential theatre visionary, dies aged 97 | Peter Brook | The Guardian

Quote

The groundbreaking British theatre director Peter Brook, whose huge influence reached around the world, has died at the age of 97. His death on Saturday was confirmed by his assistant, Nina Soufy.

Brook redefined the way we think about theatre with his productions at Stratford’s Royal Shakespeare Company; at the Bouffes du Nord, the dilapidated Parisian music hall which he made his base for more than 30 years; in African villages, where his actors improvised performances; and on the stages both grand and modest visited by his globetrotting ensemble.

Many of his productions were celebrated for stripping theatre of superfluity and distilling the drama to its essentials, presented with a clear eye and an elegant touch. Brook’s landmark 1970 RSC version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, influenced by both a Jerome Robbins ballet and the Peking Circus, was performed in a white cube of a set and boasted trapezes, stilts and a forest of steel wire. Ben Kingsley, who was among its cast, told the Guardian: “Although his passing leaves a huge gap in the world, his genius continues to guide those of us who were fortunate enough to work with him, know him and love him.”

I also enjoyed this quote: "He was born in London on 21 March 1925 and, aged seven, acted out a four-hour version of Hamlet on his own for his parents." I guess you had to make your own entertainment in those days.

Brook died at 97, so he's worth 28 Base Points for @tamthebam with a Solo Shot taking that to a total of 78.

Up next this week is actor and comedian Larry Storch: Larry Storch, best known as Corporal Agarn on classic sitcom F Troop, dead at 99 of natural causes | Daily Mail Online

Quote

Storch died of natural causes, aged 99, early Friday in his New York City apartment, according to his manager, Matt Beckoff

Although F Troop lasted only two seasons on ABC, from 1965 to 1967, it became a cult favorite in reruns

Its devoted fans could recite almost all of the adventures of the incredibly incompetent soldiers of Fort Courage and the members of the nearby Native American tribe who only pretended to be at war with them

While F Troop brought him lasting fame, Storch appeared in scores of films and TV shows both before and after the show

He also enjoyed a long career in theater and as a comic at resorts in New York State's Catskill Mountains area

Storch's credits included Treasure Island and Oliver Twist.

On TV, he guest-starred on such shows as Married... With Children, Archie Bunker´s Place, Fantasy Island, CHiPS, The Love Boat, and Gilligan´s Island

Storch was married to Norma Greve from 1961 until her death in 2003

Storch died at 99 so he's worth 26 Base Points for @Raidernation with a Solo Shot taking that to 76.

Final death this week is darts commentator John Gwynne: John Gwynne: Iconic darts commentator dies aged 77 - BBC Sport

Quote

"Iconic" darts commentator John Gwynne has died aged 77 after a battle with cancer.

Gwynne, a member of the Professional Darts Corporation Hall of Fame, retired in 2013 after 20 years commentating on darts for Sky Sports.

He worked for the BBC for many years and was chief cricket commentator covering Lancashire for local radio stations as well as North West Tonight.

He also worked on Soccer Saturday for Sky Sports.

"It is with deep sadness that I have to post that my beautiful father passed away," his son Andrew Gwynne MP said.

"His 18 month-long battle with cancer is now finally over."

PDC chief executive Matt Porter said: "John was a respected and popular figure in darts and across sports media, and this is a sad time for all who knew him.

"As part of the original Sky Sports commentary team alongside Sid Waddell and Dave Lanning, John's distinctive voice was part of the soundtrack to the PDC's formative years and they formed an iconic trio."
