Donathan
The academy have now put out a statement saying that Smith was asked to leave after the incident, but refused. In light of that it’s very surprising to me that the award he won wasn’t pulled and that he was allowed to get up and make his speech.
BigDoddyKane
looking at it with a few days to pass, its got to be dealt with. Its a slap dished out to someone doing their job. The movie industry has a bad enough rep as it is. It cant accept that as ok for anyone to behave, in what is basically a workplace setting too. Someone doing their job is slapped for it and nothing happened then everyone gave the guy a standing ovation a bit later. That sends out the wrong message on so many levels. I might be wrong but is he not saying that he didnt know she had alopecia, he was just joking off the cuff on her haircut but even if he did know, if anyone resorts to violence you should be prepared to face the consequences for that

Derry Alli
The only reason the "spotlight has been taken away from every other winner" is purely because nobody really gives a shit who wins. If Chris Rock had tripped and fallen, that's all that would be getting spoke about. Man was cheeky, man got slap. That is all there is to it. They've both moved on, it's time the rest of the world does too.

Al B
If she'd had a medical condition that caused her to put on a ton of weight, and Chris Rock had made a joke about looking forward to seeing her in an upcoming Aretha Franklin Biopic, the whole fucking room would have stood and applauded Will Smith for giving him a crack in the jaw without worrying what it could do for his career or his Oscar, and Chris Rock would never work again. Revealing Hollywoods institutional hair-ism imho.

scottsdad
Will and Jada Smith have an open marriage. You'd think he'd be used to jokes about his wife being balled.

Revealing Hollywoods institutional hair-ism imho. Actually, society's institutionally racist hair-ism: Alopecia: 'So much of black beauty is derived from your hair' - BBC News Although I think this is a better headline: I know how Will Smith felt about his wife being criticised, says Rishi Sunak - BBC News
