Most of the reduced quota of venues in use next year feature - but not the Iconic Stadium in Lusail which isn't finished.

At some point in the last few days the Khalifa Stadium in Al Rayyan was also dropped. It's the old national stadium - being expanded for WC 2022, and so presumably isn't completed yet either.

Any idea where this can be watched?

I think all are being streamed on Youtube search "FIFATV".

Bahrain 0-0 Iraq
Qatar 2-1 Oman

Mauretania 0-1 UAE
Syria 2-0 Tunisia

Own goal 7min into 2nd half injury-time sent unconvinving hosts Qatar through.

UAE through... their winner came 3min into 2nd half stoppage-time... but shock defeat for favourites Tunisia.

Tunisia had a player sent-off 10min into first half added-time. If these sort of delays are going to be repeated at WC it's going to get farcical. Halves are regularly being extended 10-15min.

I think I’ve figured out what’s going on

Starting after “Le tournoi” in France 1997

The warmup tournament for all the following World Cup hosts was always the FIFA confederations cup. The confederations cup has now died so a new warm up tournament is required even if France, Italy and Argentina aren’t interested

FIFA putting their badge on an Arab tournament is new but they’ve been endorsing the pre World Cup dress rehearsal for a quarter of a century

Plus ça change, plus ce la même chose

And given the question marks over the hosts abilities to deliver the real deal practicing with a 16 team tournament instead of eight is probably a good idea

Was there not a pre tournament for usa 94 also

France, Mexico and Saudi Arabia all hosted the Confederations Cup entirely unconnected to World Cups. It was played every 2yrs until 2009.

There was also a warm-up tournament for Euro 1992: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scania_100_Tournament

and Euro 1996: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umbro_Cup

EDIT: Oddly enough Japan v Brazil at the Umbro Cup was played at Goodison in Liverpool even though Anfield was used for Euro 96.

Similarly the opening USA v Brazil game at the US Cup in 1993 and Italy v Portugal in 1992 tournament were played at the Yale Bowl in New Haven, which wasn't used for WC 94.

UAE through

That was wrong of me: they could yet go out if they lose to Tunisia and Syria beat Mauretania.

Jordan 0-4 Morocco
Palestine 1-1 Saudi Arabia

Lebanon 0-2 Algeria
Egypt 5-0 the Sudan

Routine wins for Morocco, Algeria and Egypt in the Nile derby (latter pair qualify) which eliminate the Sudan and Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia performing terribly.

Oman 3-0 Bahrain
Qatar 3-0 Iraq

Qatar         9pts
Oman         4pts
Iraq              2pts
Bahrain     1pt

Syria 1-2 Mauretania
Tunisia 1-0 UAE

Tunisia                6pts    +3
UAE                      6pts    +1
Syria                    3pts       0
Mauretania     3pts     -4

Oman through - slight surprise ahead of Iraq - and Tunisia. They meet in QFs... as do Qatar and UAE, local rivals which had until recently totally severed diplomatic ties. Last meeting was marred by eligibility protests, ticket disputes, crowd trouble and slipper-throwing.

How has the new VAR offside technology been working?

Slowly it appears. Once again 2 winners and 2 other goals were scored in injury-time during matchday #3.

Egypt make hard work of it - while in a mild surprise Algeria win the North African derby.

Read that some satellite and streaming providers are picking-up SFs & Final so they may yet appear on Eurosport/etc.

Egypt 0-0 Qatar (aet, 5-6p)

Tunisia 0-2 Algeria (aet)

Hosts finish 3rd after 120mins and penalties in bronze playoff.

Shock result in the Final as Algeria score on 99mins and 120+5mins to win... Majid Bougherra manages his nation to a world title.
