Dundee Utd v Aberdeen

Recommended Posts

Just saw the Ojo incident. Truly mental he got a red card.

The United fan was clearly the aggressor, not quite sure why he thought it OK to push Ojo in the chest. Hopefully a lifetime ban comes his way along with a conviction.

What is poor is the reaction of United fans around him who seemed to be backing their pondlife mate up. Very strange people.

The United fan should never have reacted to Ojo like that and I'm pretty confident he will be identified and punished accordingly.

Having seen the replays Butcher deserved to be sent off, which I didn't think at the time.

I was sitting behind the dugout and Stephen Glass was in the fourth officials ear complaining from the start of the game and Scott Brown was being Scott Brown and at the ref all the time. No surprise to see Glass punted to the stand at half time, especially after his on pitch antics at the whistle..

As a United fan, I think it was a fair result and the Aberdeen fans on the train home seemed to agree.

A draw would’ve been a fair result. Both teams were garbage.

Having shared a train home with your fans, they disagreed with your POV. One goal was going to win that game and it just happened to be United who scored it.

That sounds a lot like a draw being a fair result.

Very little in the game but of course someone can make the most of a set piece to separate the teams.

What a fucking ridiculous decision. Referee’s are complete wee guys on a power trip. Unreal.

In all seriousness, the guy gets shoved which isn't on, but then he squares up to the fan after. Now you can't celebrate with your own fans or take your top off to celebrate a last minute winner without getting a yellow so reacting to and squaring up to an opposition fan isn't really a clever thing to do, heat of the moment or not. Especially while on a yellow card already.

Yellow card is the correct result.

It absolutely is not the correct result. In my opinion, Ojo showed great restraint. Any referee that displays a little common sense in this scenario makes the logical decision to have a word in his ear, ask him to take a breather and then get on with the game.

Too often people hide behind what the laws try and dictate and remove any human element.

If:

A) Madden had shown that common sense and kept his cards in his pocket

B) the game carries on and

C) Dundee United confirm they are taking action to identify and ban the fan

then every single person is writing on this thread praising the actions of everyone involved (other than that fat mess that caused the whole issue)

Not so sure about that. Great restraint would be not reacting and walking away, not squaring up to some brain donor fan in the stand. Im not expecting him to be an emotionless automaton but you can't do what he did.

Yellow is the correct decision imo. At that point he was on a yellow and that literally is a warning to watch your conduct.

In the moment, the referee is in control of the game and can't wait till after the game to see if United will call an investigation.

In 99% of day-to-day situations, Ojo knocks the horrible c**t on his arse. The fact that he realises in the heat of the moment, pumped full of adrenaline that he is a professional sportsman and he can’t do what every fibre in his body is telling him to, is definitely great restraint.

As you allude to but are too scared to actually admit, you can’t expect a player to simply walk away in that situation.

In terms of the rulebook, the case there was different because Ojo ran up to the stands to confront the player. Getting involved with an incident with a fan who encroaches the pitch is not a mandatory caution. Approaching the stands in a manner which is likely to cause any kind of security incident IS.

The incident hinges around a player who is protecting himself from falling over advertising banners and initially reacting to being assaulted by a fan then held himself in control. The problem is that the referee had absolutely no brain. Madden’s ability reminds me of the cop being interviewed by Sean Connery and Kevin Costner in The Untouchables. There goes the next chief of police. Thicko
The referee should be suspended pending a detailed enquiry.
This may end up being consider racial abuse with a referee siding with the abuser instead of defusing the situation and protecting the abused.
More to follow here me thinks. Although I suspect it will all be swept under the carpet.
In future Fans will provoke players when they come anywhere near them. Hopefully a yellow snd possible a red card to influence a game.

Does “squaring up” to a fan warrant a yellow card? He was shoved by an opposition fan, under no provocation. In response, he stood up to him, no contact, showing much more restraint than 90% of people in that situation would show. It’s not like he deliberately went up to the United support and goaded them. He did f*ck all and if it was a United player in that situation the you’d never be saying it was a yellow.

Ridiculous sending off.

I get the laws of the game say its a booking, but come on to f**k.

Ojo had already walked away and was getting back in to position. The situation had calmed itself down so there was really no need for the caution other than Madden wanting to keep those boxes ticked so he can keep going on his European holidays.

All the ref had to do was have a word with Ojo, make sure he wasnt ready for snapping someone and move on while the dobber gets escorted and banned for life.

As others have said, whats to stop some other mutant having a shove when a player is taking a corner or throw in in the hope he reacts even slightly, now the standard has been set with a booking?
