djchapsticks
68 shots at goal and 32 on target in a 90 minute match must be a record of some sort.
djchapsticks
The league may be gone but there's still a chance in the cup to at least gain some silverware. Only problem is we're away to my our foes, Weymouth Wales. Need to pull a real rabbit out the hat to still have anything left to play for this season. Went full strength and kept the fingers crossed. They've been comfortably better than us in every game we've met so far... Spoiler Truth be told, they were probably better than us here too, but who gives a shit? We eked out an unlikely win and paradise are in the BFA cup final where we play our other old rivals They'll be out for revenge for us papping their B team out in the quarters. djchapsticks
Dalton Joseph is a prime candidate for a fucking slap in the pus if he bags me after the job I've done with a negative transfer budget and 7 quid wages to spend. c**t Anyway, my youth intake this year is pretty promising looking. I mean as per, I don't trust my scouts or coaches judgement even a wee bit but a couple of lads will be getting straight in the squad for next season. I'm going for it with a team of kids as I have f**k all else available to chase it with. Spoiler

djchapsticks
With the league season just about at the end, I have one last major fixture. The BFA Knockout Cup final vs the Defence Force. Winning a trophy would cap a brilliant first season in trying circumstances and hopefully set the wheels in motion for a crack at next season's title with this young side. So could we do it? Spoiler We certainly could, and it was one of those youths, Hadan Howell who got the winner. Our starting and sub strikers were 15 and 16 respectively, our backup attacking mid, also 15. There's a lot to be optimistic about with this side. I also agreed to a one year extension with Paradise, so I'll do a recap of the last part of the season following my final league game and then it's back to the drawing board for 2023/24.
djchapsticks
I've also been set my initial budgets which in total fairness, is exceptionally generous given how shoddy it was this season. I'll never spend £40k on transfer fees given a high portion of Barbadian players are on non-contract terms, so most of that will be pumped into the wage budget. I'm sticking to the ethos though of young guys getting their crack at it. There's a lot of dead wood in the middle of the park, defence and midfield that needs to go and I plan to get shot and replace with 3 or 4 top players for this level but I'm not straying too far from what I've been doing.
djchapsticks
End of season 2022/23 As predicted, the title challenge never arose despite a quite tremendous season given the circumstances. Weymouth Wales lost only one game all season and it was too much to even get close to them. Truth be told it was all over bar the shouting after first 8 games when it became obvious how much better than Paradise they are. Their squad had a load of Jamaican Super League loanees and that's a far better standard than our league. Any time I went to bring in players from the same level, there was no interest though I'm hoping that our North American Champions League place will attract some of those faces over next season. Hopefully several outs and a few key ins before the start of the season. Will be interesting to see if the calibre of player and coach I can attract is better.
djchapsticks
Pre season 2023/24 As I'd mentioned, I moved the majority of the transfer budge over to wages to attract a better calibre of player and to be fair I do think the squad is stronger with my additions. First, the outgoings - Lashley and Harris were both decent last season but the exact types of player that you need to improve on if you want to take the next step. Ramses was a backup centre half I signed in a pinch, 35 and not any good. No big deal. Harris is a pisser though, he demanded to be let go, no scope to negotiate and when one of the top teams from the much larger Trinidad and Tobago league came calling, I couldn't really stand in his way. He covered 2 or 3 positions as well. Weekes was a youth player who even my scouts thought had no potential, so didn't fight his corner to leave at all. In terms of incoming - I'll skip past Weekes, Applethwaite and Miggins. All have come in as backup and won't feature this season unless in a crisis. Peter Dennis - The first time I've spent money at the club and I reckon the lad is worth it. 17 year old Jamaican AMC from Weymouth Wales and he'll be straight in among my young squad. Spoiler Mohamed Hussain - My Awesome habits bleeding over here and went for a technically very good but ancient 42 year old Bahraini centre half. Good centre halves are like hens teeth for me - they've been my Achilles Heel since the start of the save and my squad were pissed off at me for lack of cover in that position, so I signed him for the season. Except he announced 3 days after signing that he's fucking retiring in December, the p***k. So off I went looking again. Spoiler Ramon Hurdle - Central mid is another sort of problem area and I feel will continue to be. Hurdle will provide competition for there but is genuinely not ready to start every week. Spoiler Niall Reid-Stephen - Free transfer from UWI and ticks the boxes. Young, already pretty good, multiple positions. He'll be involved most weeks. Spoiler Stephen Phillips - My backup plan for Hussain retiring. Decent enough, young, good tackler, potential to be better. Unfortunately, I'm still working in a ridiculously small talent pool so he's about the best I could find. Until my scouts totally without prompt, pulled back reports of Argentinian free agents... djchapsticks
So next thing you know - here come my scouts with a very small handful of Argentinian reports and to my surprise, a few were keen on signing for us. By this point in the window, most 2nd division releases had been snapped up, but I managed to improve my defensive woes and improve myself in wide areas, so here they are. Martin Gil - Will slot right in at LB and allow the versatile Akeem Hill to play further up the park. Spoiler Lucas Pedrozo - Finally some real centre half respite. Spoiler Isidro Gorosito - I like the look of this lad. He'll do well in Barbados against most of the jobbers he'll be up against. Spoiler Javier Segovia - A physical specimen by Barbadian standards even if not technically that good. Both Argentinians on the wings will cause fucking carnage. djchapsticks
As for the NACL - We go straight into the group stage so there's plenty of continental football on the go. I expect Waterhouse and Defence Force to be too strong for me, but I'd like to finish 3rd or at worst, 4th. I'd like to think I'd have too much for the Martinique side, Golden Lion for sure.
djchapsticks
First day of the season - Weymouth Wales who lost one game all of last season (after they were already Champions) drop to a first day defeat.
djchapsticks
August 2023 A perfect start in the league bit it looks like I've misjudged the CL. I thought the Haitian team in our CL group would be the 2nd weakest but they've completely bitch-slapped us to the point where 2-1 flattered us. Still, joint top and our next opponents are the champs who have lost more in the first 3 games than the whole of last season. I need to ensure we pile on the misery. djchapsticks
This mob were my Everest last year. Almost impossible to lay a glove on and we've sent them packing with the greatest of ease. As predicted, it's been a bit of an Argentinian revelation in Barbados this season.
djchapsticks
September 2023 Perfect month for the boys, capped off with a first ever NACL victory. A hollow one though as only one team qualifies out of our group of five and we're 4 points behind with a game to go, so we won't be in the later stages. We also opened up a 3 point lead at the top and I'm determined that we stay there this time. Weymouth Wales have had a total nightmare time of it this season and are already out of the title picture after just six games you feel.
djchapsticks
October 2023 A struggle of a month on the whole. A first domestic defeat in 19 games - a massively disappointing defeat to Empire Club, a team named after two biscuits - sees us drop back into second place (even with better GD and no H2H). We also finished up a pretty disappointing 4th in the NACL campaign. UWI and Defence Force are my next two games. I met a similar double header after 8 games last season and our title hopes more or less ended there and then. If we get through this with flying colours then it's on.
djchapsticks
November/December 2023 So onto the big early double header. We shat the bed at this point last season and let Weymouth Wales in for a lead they never looked like relinquishing. It could take a similar turn here. First up is UWI Blackbirds, clearly the weaker of the two sides so I'll be hoping to at least get a foot up on them here. Spoiler It wasn't even close. A complete slapping from start to finish. This mob won't be a danger to our title chances Then came the Defence Force - they've undoubtedly improved this season and filled in the gap left by the faltering Weymouth Wales: Spoiler A late, late get out of jail card. I was seething all the way through this as we were so much fucking better than them and it was going to be galling for us to leave with nothing. Their keeper became a hybrid of Gordon Banks and a Hindu God at points in the game. b*****d. So not bad at all, we're still very much in it and my thinking was that its only matter of time before the Defence Force drop points. The rest of Nov/Dec went swimmingly though. Just look at that month!! 'f**k sake chapsticks, that's great!', I hear you say. 'You will have this wrapped up in jig time and you can leave Barbados for the next leg as a hero after building a team who will canter it to the title'. Aye, ye'd think that but NOPE! The b*****ds at the Defence Force have gone result for result and pretty much goal for goal with us. We're still chasing - that 90th minute goal is the only time they've conceded in the last 11 and they've only shipped two goals all fucking season! Barbados won't give in easily it seems. djchapsticks
January 2024 Another strong month right up until meeting my old Weymouth Wales mates and we ground out a point after being thoroughly outplayed. Absolute pisser. But wait, what's this?! Turns out this was also the week Defence Force decided they'd finally roll over and get their belly rubbed, so 2 points dropped now looks decidedly like one point gained and we're top for the first time in a long time.

djchapsticks
I recently started a new job (in the real world) so haven't had any dealings really in this. Glad to say, I am back now and will have in game updates later today as my time in Paradise comes to a hopefully happy end...
