WORLD CUP PLAY-OFFS: the Scottish balls-up scenario. It couldn't happen, could it?!

At this rate, I'd rather Wales got a seeded spot given the realistic chance we have of getting the same.  Could be a horror draw for us, but wouldn't mind Wales in Cardiff as an alternative.  It'll be a tragedy if we get beat, but still.

Think we are guaranteed a seed if we beat Denmark because we will either go above Croatia in the 2nd place table (if they fail to beat Russia), or if they beat Russia they’ll win the group and we’ll be above Russia

Surely a win vs Denmark would guarantee we’re seeded no matter what happens in other games?

Can someone post what we need elsewhere if we draw or lose?

Yes, win is a gaurantee

Let’s just win then. Suits me. Make it so, Stevie Clarke!

We just have to go for the win and hope we're good enough to get it. A draw probably won't be enough. But realistically, we're going to lose, and hope we avoid Croatia.

I don't even know how the playoffs work. Are the teams split into groups?

6 seeded teams and 6 unseeded get drawn into 3 "paths" of 4, and 1 qualifies from each.

Easier to reference the euro playoff where 1 of Scotland vs Israel and Norway vs Serbia was going to qualify.

I understand you’re at home if seeded and away if unseeded…how do they decide who is at home for second game? Random draw like for the Euros?

There will be three paths of four teams. The winners of the first semi final in each path will be at home in the final.

I expect Belgium to beat Wales, so I’d fancy us to be seeded with a draw.

In today’s results we are hoping for a Russian win in Croatia at 2pm and Spain to beat Sweden by 3+ at 7:45pm.

If both of those happen then we are seeded with a point, and if even one of them happens then we have a very good chance of being seeded with a point.

If Scotland draw 1-1 and Wales draw 0-0 then the ranking will depend on disciplinary record. Anyone know what the respective records are? Does Scotland having played 2 more games get taken into account?

Looks like we are on 16 points and Wales are on 15

We are going to draw tomorrow night then get Czech Republic at home in the semi final. We will erase the memory of Patrik Schick's wonder goal at a full Hampden.

I'm reloading the crystal ball before I predict the final but another trip to Belgrade wouldn't be the worst scenario.

We're going to the World Cup, I've decided. This current squad will make it so.
