According to Nicholas Witchell - who granted is a complete and utter fucking moron - it will likely be a bank holiday and cannot take place on a Sunday.

I mean he's already changed his tune from Charles being flown from Aberdeen to Northolt in an RAF aircraft to it being a private charter in the time it took to fly there.

Interesting - last I read was that even if it’s a Monday, it won’t be a bank holiday and no employers will be obliged to give their employees the day off for it.

Of course, I’m loath to dispute Nicholas “the Loch Ness Monster is real and a living plesiosaur” Witchell’s expertise.

Interesting to see how many of the “Open everything! End this nonsense!” crowd during the pandemic are now crying, “Close everything! Show some respect!”

Remember when politicians were partying during lockdown while us peasants couldn’t visit dying relatives or attend funerals? Well the Tory weirdos who told us to “GET OVER IT!” are going to be the exact same flag shagging oddballs foaming at the mouth when businesses/politicians/celebs are seen to be “NOT SHOWING ENOUGH RESPECT!!!” Priorities, eh?

I had read that the Queen had said it wasn't to be a holiday but there now seems to be some potential that it might be.

Apparently the state funeral will not be a bank holiday (as was predicted for a while). It’s likely to be on a Sunday anyway. Apart from the enforced grief porn across the mainline channels, cancellations of games and some events, and a hazy and undefined nine days of “national mourning”, nothing is really happening. Certainly, nothing positive is being given to her beloved subjects - we’re just having things taken away.

It looks like the might be saving the “positive” stuff for a coronation, which will probably be mid-summer next year (to try and re-enact the jubilee and to be as far as possible from two potentially crippling winters).

I remember being public enemy one down in Yorkshire when our Scout group went down there caving for the weekend of Diana's funeral.

Lots of people parked up in the Dales with portable TVs in their caravans / campervans, going apeshit at us as they saw us dressed in caving kit.

Still remember "How dare you have fun during the funeral of our princess!!!", followed by my (then 13 or 14yo) mate lighting the torch paper by replying with "f*** off, we're Scottish!".  He genuinely had the old biddie shouting at a bunch of teenagers in a state of tears.

Suppose she doesn't get much say in it now...

Imagine that plane taking Charlie down the road went down. William ascends and what kind of mourning would happen with a double dunt in two days.

Does there not have to be a coronation ceremony before Williams officially next line? Not sure of the protocol but would seem right for Anne to be new Queen if that happened

You’d think with how long they’ve been preparing for this they’d have had definitive answers ready to go. Not surprised they could cock up even the collapsed London Bridge.

Latest to be getting monstered online is Owen Jones, for asking whether cancellations have affected anyone currently struggling with their finances.

Read the room, Owen - the richest aristocrats in Blighty have lost their matriarch! Now is not the time to be sparing a thought for the underclass!

"The emotional moment of the Queen’s death is only just beginning but will be far-reaching; its short-, medium- and long-term implications are fascinatingly – and for some, frighteningly – unpredictable. Not for everyone, of course – and there are many different emotions bubbling up. But the Queen’s long and constant chapter has closed at a moment of great uncertainty and gathering struggle for the country she reigned over for 70 years. It feels noteworthy that of her 15 prime ministers, four of them have turned up for audiences with her in the past six years alone. She was widely held to have embodied virtues whose absence in public life is increasingly evident. For some time, there has been a growing sense that the wheels are coming off all sorts of different machines – a feeling that we may not be watching the end of a season but the end of the whole series."

Lothian Buses alerting Capital bus users that there will be more f*cking disruption to bus services as central streets to close when Brenda's corpse comes to town.

Just get her to Lahndahn, ferfuxake......

I was thinking that from a purely historical point of view it might be worth a trip into Edinburgh to see that, but I don't think I'd be able to handle the hysterical weeping that will no doubt everywhere. Plus the Royal Mile ain't exactly the biggest place for a large crowd.
