2022/2023 Uefa Nations League

Recommended Posts

The draw for the next Nations League beginning in June 2022, will be made on the 16th of December 2021.

Scotland are in League B, Pot 2.

All teams will have a quadruple header in June 2022, due to the World Cup being moved.

Israel are in League B, Pot 3. There is a 1 in 4 chance that we will draw them again. I never want to play them again.

All the details are here:

Just thought I'd get the ball rolling early.

I'd say it's worse for the Israeli fans having lost on penalties and by a last minute goal against us!

I wonder if other European nations would prefer Scotland ahead of Finland, Norway or Russia.

I'd say they'd want Finland or Scotland ahead of Russia, and probably ahead of Norway.

I understand that seedings for Euro 2024 qualifying are based on final positions from this Nations League, so I believe in order for Scotland to be in pot 2 we must win our section. Otherwise we will be in pot 3 and could have a very tricky Euro 2024 qualifying group.

Another (possible) negative of messing up the end of the last Nations League campaign.

Edit to add: October 2022 draw date for Euro 24 qualifying; this Nations League finalises Sept 2022.

We could also be the best 2nd placed team and be in pot 2. Germany qualify as hosts so everyone will be bumped up a place.

Obviously, it's a no from me for Israel.

Iceland are both poor right now, and a fantastic away trip.  Otherwise, I'd be okay with Bosnia.

Ireland are dire, but you just know it would be hard.  Perhaps, Romania instead.

All Pot 4 teams have comfortable 2-0 win at home written all over them.  1-0 loss away absolutely guaranteed.  I'd prefer Montenegro, or Armenia purely on the basis we've never played them before.

Iceland, Ireland, Armenia please.

I reckon that's a group where every team would fancy their chances. Armenia are ahead of Iceland in their qualifying group and have a shot at 2nd place.

I'd also love to see Armenia win 1-0 in Dublin, as long as we also win there

The uneven amount of teams in Pot D annoys me. Every year some tiny wee jobber team should be invited in as a guest. Get Kiribati, Brunei or Cayman Islands in on rotation. Finally give San Marino a chance at a win.

It’s not a bad idea.  I wonder if those countries wouldn’t mind just being in a 7-team league anyway.  There’s a relegation playoff from various levels, so I doubt they would mind too much.  It’s not like (Moldova apart) that their players are distracted from European football for their clubs.
