Jan Vojáček
Scottish football's two most historically significant sides facing off for the second time this season. Queen's Park absolutely battered Sons in the first game, and Dumbarton come into this one on the back of a pumping from Peterhead. QP also lost their last game (a rare occurrence this season) albeit against a title chasing Kilmarnock. I hope we see a big reaction from the players after the Peterhead result. And I hope they have a bit of desire to lay a glove on QP after such a below-par performance at Firhill in August. Team wise having Joe McKee and Paul Paton available would be nice. But I won't hold my breath on that one. I wouldn't be totally again a wee change at full-back on either side. Although dropping Lynch for Geggan at Firhill turned into a total disaster. Lynch was a bit ragged against Peterhead and Boyle had a nightmare. I'm not sure bringing in Sam Muir for a game against a side as good as Queen's Park would be wise though. I think this will be tight. Can see it being a close fought 1-1. Queen's having more of the play and chances, but us scoring from a cross or a dead ball.
an86
First league meeting at the Rock since a final day dead rubber in 2007, I think. It’s almost impossible to know what to expect. We’ve beaten Falkirk and Cove and toiled a wee bit against the bottom end teams. Dumbarton have both dished out and received 5-0 pumpings, as well as winning at Falkirk. We’re turning into draw specialists, with five of our nine unbeaten being a share of the spoils. Frustratingly, we should probably have taken three points in all of them except the Montrose game, last time out. It felt like we were solid at the back early in the season, but we’ve started losing some really poor goals, which we can ill afford to keep doing. Murray is on a bit of a mini drought as well, having not scored in five games. He’s scored in three of our four wins this season. We don’t have another striker who can change a game like he can. Expect another tight game, but hoping the quality of the likes of Connell and a refreshed and rested Simon Murray can make the difference for us.
microdave
If we lose, I think we should lodge a protest and get the game replayed like we did in 1881. Although I'd prefer a different outcome to that replay.
I Zingari
The clubs first met in a Scottish Cup semi-final in January 1880. Queen's won 1-0. A repeat of that scoreline will do fine.

The Moonster
I just hope we go out and attack. We looked a bit feart at Firhill to get on the ball and I thought we were poor defensively. I hope that our pumping at Peterhead has not put doubt in the minds of guys like McGeever and Boyle who were both fairly honking, we need them to put in good performances here and restore a bit of faith in the defence. Expect we'll cause a few more problems for QP with our 4-4-2, but it needs the midfield to win those battles. Hopefully Rossco MacLean can get back amongst the goals too.

A repeat of that scoreline will do fine. Surprising that it took eight years for the clubs to meet. Hopefully Queens wont be as worried about the crowd as they seemed to be when they first visited the Rock in 1883 The excitement and the rivalry of season 1880-81 and 1881-82 were carried into season 1882-83, as Dumbarton and Queen's Park were pitted against each other once more in a Scottish Cup tie, on this occasion in the sixth round. The tie had to be played at Dumbarton, too, which town, strange to say, the senior club had never visited before. The team was very doubtful what reception awaited it, and its anticipations on this head were doleful and pessimistic in the extreme, and not without reason, when it is remembered the hard battles the clubs had already fought on neutral grounds, and under peculiar circumstances. It is not an exaggeration to say it embarked on that short journey in fear and trembling, not so much as to the result of the game, as to the knowledge that the Dumbarton spectators might not share the feelings of friendly rivalry that really existed between the two clubs, and which confined itself to the field of battle. A fear dwelt in the hearts of the Queen's Park that a hostile reception was to be expected. The saloon carriage which carried the team on that eventful journey contained many timorous souls, prepared to face all eventualities, whether from an aggressive crowd or from a foe worthy of their steel. All these gloomy anticipations were doomed to be agreeably disappointed, as the reception given the Queen's Park team on stepping on to the field of play was decidedly friendly, not to say cordial, and equally so during the game itself. The players on both sides played in a fair yet determined manner, and gave an exhibition worthy of the high position both then held in the world of football. The game was played on 3rd February, 1883. After many attempts and many years of patient labour, Dumbarton attained here the object of their ambition, when they defeated Queen's Park by three goals to one, and won the cup for the first and last time, defeating Vale of Leven in the final by two goals to one, after a drawn game. In this match Queen's Park played three half-backs—Campbell, Watson, and Gow—and Dumbarton two—P. Miller and L. Keir. The new formation had its effect on Harrower, as he seemed at sea looking for his old partner. All the Dumbarton team played as they never played before, and were delighted at their great success. The teams were:— Queen's Park—A. Rowan; W. Arnott and A. W. Holm; C. Campbell, A. Watson, and J. J. Gow; E. Fraser, W. Anderson, W. Harrower, D. S. Allan, and J. L. Kay. Dumbarton—J. M'Aulay; M. Paton and J. Hutcheson; P. Miller and L. Keir; R. Brown (1), R. Brown (2), J. Lindsay, J. Miller, F. M'Arthur, and W. M'Kinnon. Hampden Diehard
Wee plug for this, if anyone's interested: "Drew Busby (ex Hearts, Airdrie etc) is looking forward to welcoming all Dumbarton and Queen's Park supporters to the Waverley Bar He will be there until about 3 pm and is open to any questions on his career and Scottish football in general. The bar is a five minute taxi ride from the stadium." Your fun fact is that he scored Third Lanark's final competitive goal before they folded.

BallochSonsFan
Conditions at Peterhead were terrible but I was massively disappointed with a few perforances. I thought McGeever was atrocious in the first half. I thought that the midfield were never really in the game and our delivery was poor. Conditions in the 2nd half were a farce, but Peterhead managed in 45 minutes what we couldnt when we were wind asssted. The difference between their play and ours was clear. Different game. Different conditions. We need to put Peterhead behind us. I still maintain that Simon Murray is too good to be in this division. I don't like seeing teams being bankrolled beyond what they could normally afford. Thats not restricted to Queens Park - I hate Darvel, Hurlford and Kelty Hearts for the exact same reasons but I wouldn't want any of them to end up like Gretna. I definitely think we were out of sorts in the first game at Firhill. We won't be that bad again. That said, 3 of our 4 wins have been away from home. We've drawn 2 and lost 1 at The Rock. Queens Park have only won once away from home and have drawn 3 times, but haven't lost an away game yet and remain unbeaten in the league so far. I'd normally say that you need to win your home games. Not sure any of us expected to be 3 point off the league leaders after the first quarter of the season. We might be 5th but its a really congested table other than East Fife struggling at the bottom. A draw on Saturday wouldn't be a terrible result.

A draw wouldn't be a terrible result, but we really need to have a go; if we cede possession from the off then Brown and Gillespie will dictate proceedings in the midfield, so we need to ensure it is a contest from the first whistle. We backed off at home to Airdrie and Cove and scraped a point from these two games.
