ITV manage it with England games. How do they outbid Sky?

It could well be the case that the SFA and FA view things differently; e.g. SFA just go for the highest bidder whereas FA take a bit of a hit so it's on free to air. Doesn't appear to be much info either way unfortunately; can anybody find out how much they actually pay for the rights?

Of course, the only home nation who has ALL of their matches on free to air is actually Wales on S4C.

Sponsorship I'd guess

The games will attract advertising.  I guess ITV are willing to sacrifice more of that potential advertising revenue than Sky are to pay the FA for the rights.

ITV have f**k all else in the way of live football.  Sky have plenty to attract subscriptions and already have their cash cow.  People likely wouldn’t buy subscriptions just for England games so they don’t see it as worthwhile just for ad revenue alone.

If ITV want to be seen as a player they have to show something.

Have the FA not been constantly complaining about being skint since the Wembley redevelopment.  Sure the media trot that one out every time they want an England manager punted then explain why the FA can’t afford to sack him.

The SFA and FA don't sell the rights - they are all sold by UEFA.

they have have the rights to england women for the next 4 years and  FA Cup will be shown on the channel from this season onwards.

I’m sure your average England supporter will be glued to the England women on TV in the same way they would up here.  A real ratings winner.   Doesn’t matter if you agree with it or not, that’s how it is.

Some good info coming out on this thread. We have a situation where one of the UK's (therefore our) major banks, bankrolls one of Scotlands terrestrial TV providers (as part of a wider ITV) to show live matches of another footballing nations games in Scotland............at times when Scotland are playing.

For the sake of our national sport that is a p@sh state of affairs.

Nationwide. STV. C@nts

No thanks

well stop moaning about tv coverage then, STV don't have a say what rights are bought, and no one gives a f**k about Scotland outside of Scotland, and even then not everyone is interested in the national team regardless how well they're doing.

SC4 has nothing to do with ITV, they're funded by the BBC if i'm not mistaken, STV are no marks that tried to bin ITV programmes before and got sued for it, add to that, not everyone gets STV, doesnt the signal change to Border tv in Dumfries & Galloway

Well if s4c can find it in their budget to provide terrestrial coverage for the Wales games

Bbc scotland / bbc alba should be able to do the same
