Rovers v Arbroath

Recommended Posts

The officials were woeful ! Summed it up for me when the ball was half a meter out for an Arbroath shy and the officials played on 😃😃😃   Varian constantly being fouled yet he was the first to receive a yellow for all the hype about Arbroath they done very little today well done Rovers

We need to cut out the wee errors leading to us losing goals at the end of games. Even today that goal was met with a collective shrug of the shoulders in the South Stand. No idea why folk went mental when we hoofed it out for a throw in at the corner of the main stand too. We handled it brilliantly and saw out the game well from that point on.

Overall, two moments of quality in front of goal from us. We had a few half chances, but never really created anything particularly memorable other than Varian's one on one. It was still more than Arbroath who did very little with all of their possession and high press. I've no idea over the handball shout or penalty claim at the far end, but the referee was one who was probably viewed as appalling for both teams.

Ethan Ross looks like he's up to speed already - it's understandable given he's likely been playing in bounce games down in England and training for months. He had some excellent touches and should be an excellent additional. Today, I'd say the standouts for us were Matthews and Tait in the middle of the park. Both were excellent even aside from their goals.

Not the liveliest game on a cold afternoon and very few chances at either end.  After a run of clean sheets, a bit of defensive sloppiness has crept in - which was probably the only difference today.   We’ve had the break of the ball some games this season so the early unlucky deflection was maybe payback but goals were seriously avoidable.  That also seemed to change the rest of the game since Raith sat deeper seemed happy to allow us a fair of possession but we struggled to open up their experienced defence.  Even big Joel seemed off his game and showed a lack of composure a couple of times when an opening was on.    After the blatant handball, it was nice to get the late consolation.  Raith seemed solid enough at the back, with the occasional slick one-two going forward but not that impressive, despite their recent run.  Forgettable from us, and maybe even Raith glad the crowd seemed sparse.   I think we could benefit from getting Nicky Low back and probably David Gold, plus some noise from the away fans.

No one seemed satisfied with the officials. What is the point of asst refs if they struggle with the utter basics: a) cannot tell when a ball has crossed the line and b) which side should get a throw-in.?

Agree with Matthews & Tait being our standouts today, they completely ran the midfield. Also thought Varian was very good, he gave O’Brien (who is normally very good against us) an absolute doing & bullied him throughout. Was interested before the game to see what all the talk about Nouble was about, still waiting as he was totally anonymous.

Fully agree though ToB had a really poor game for his standards,
Though Thompson struggled too, his poor clearance led to the 2nd goal,
The first goal actually came from Hilson given it away too,
We huffed and puffed but didn't look like happening at all for us today,
Raith very tidy on the ball and deserved there win,

Another good win for Rovers. Second  in the league and everything looking rosy. It would be nice if we could put games to bed, but that aside we’re doing pretty well. What a guy McGlynn is. Wouldn’t swap him for anyone.

If the boy at the back of the South Stand, who keeps calling anyone and everyone "a c**t", wants to spend his Saturdays at the pictures instead, I'll buy his popcorn.

Murder eh? Seemed like it was a full moon at times today some of the shouts that were going on.

This is why I prefer the Main Stand these days and hope to return there when we get rid of this Red Zone thing. There are definitely less moon howlers in there. Some of the shouts I hear have my eyebrows lifting and/or eyes rolling. Apparently Tait was shite today. I think folk watch Match of the Day and expect Rovers games to be like the edited highlights they see on there where multi-millionaire footballers are doing the business.

Well done  Rovers inflicting Arbroath's first defeat since 31 July.

That said, sitting top half after 1st quarter we've got to be pretty chuffed.

Can see Rovers, Killie & ICT slogging it out.

I'll maybe agree if things are as they are on the first Saturday evening in April 2022. Long long way to go with many twists and turns betwixt now and then.🥴

Thought Arbroath looked a decent team first half and the second goal knocked the wind out of them, very flat second half, will definitely stay up and comfortably imo

I felt like Campbell's subs actually made them worse overall. They ended up vacating midfield a bit which gave us more space, and went even more direct which is basically what our defence specialises in stopping (try turning them, on the other hand...)

Linn did not get any change out of our right hand side once he was on, either.

Good solid win today without playing that well. Thought Arbroath were unlucky to head in 2 down at half-time. Frustrating to lose another late goal but thankfully it was so late we were spared the usual panic. Ross looked good even in his short cameo. Excited to see more of him.

What a first quarter we’ve had. Sitting second and playing some great football. The only real difference between us and the league leaders is that narrow 1-0 loss up in Inverness. Already looking forward to next Saturday.

I agree mate, comfortable 2nd half and not sure if it was fitness why he made those changes

I was interested to see what all the fuss about Nouble was. Thought he did okay first half in terms of harassing our defence but their players weren’t doing enough with the space he was creating.

I hadn’t twigged that Dowds had left Falkirk. He usually causes us bother.

We are a quality finisher away from doing well. Berra and Bene are a good partnership. You can see how Bene has come on with a player like Berra who he can depend on.
