Peterhead v Dumbarton

Recommended Posts

You would think we had never played in the wind before...

We haven't dealt with the conditions anywhere near as well as Peterhead and that's been the main difference today. We had nothing to show for the wind advantage in the first half despite having much more of the ball. Peterhead on the other hand have 1 goal against the wind and 2 with it (so far).

You can moan about conditions but it's the same for both teams and we've capitulated. First good ball into the box in that second half from the hosts and it's a goal, yet we didn't manage 1 good ball in 45 minutes of domination. I can let them off this week as delivery is normally a strong point but our defending is worrying and we're conceding daft, comical goals. Still work to be done.

I stopped watching at the 3rd goal. Can't say much about the 4th or 5th.

Conditions were terrible, but they're terrible for both teams. Peterhead may well be used to those conditions in their own ground but The Rock isnt exactly free from wind.  We barely managed a shot on goal in the 45 minutes playing with the wind behind us. Peterhead manage 4 goals. I'm not going to get angry about today and I'm not going to get overly worried but equally I'm not writing this one off as just one of those days. The 70 minutes I lasted were terrible. We defended poorly and weren't good going forward. Perhaps we approached today with the wrong mentality? I certainly didnt see Peterhead to be favourites for this one and perhaps our good results recently have the players a little bit lax? Tough games  coming up with a couple away and only 1 at home, and that's against Queens Park.

We need to hope that the players are angry with themselves, angry with each other and that it's not a happy bus journey home. Then we put it behind us and try to get back to playing better than this abject misery today.

Where did that come from?

We Did It Reaction GIF

It came from a goal in three minutes which effectively compromised the referee's ability to abandon what became an increasingly farcical game of football.  In saying that Peterhead absolutely deserved the win as they dealt much better with the conditions.

By dint of it being their home fixture Peterhead are probably much more used to playing in gales.

Don't get these kind of comments. Half of our team weren't here last season and this is the first time this season with any kind of a breeze.

Using that principle, we are up against it every time we play on a plastic pitch because we don't have one. 😉

Just heading back from Balmoor, aye the conditions were awful but were the same for both sides.

That's right up there with the worst Ive seen Sons play, at 1-0 down we took charge for around 20 minutes or so, when it went 2-0 we gave up.

Hope it's just a blip as things have been looking promising.

Thank f**k we've got a carry out for the road back  😀

Dumbarton had 45 minutes to adapt to playing with the wind. They didn't.

They had another 45 minutes to adapt playing against the wind....which was more farcical than their attempts to play with the wind!

The goalkeeper kept lumping the thing in the air,  only for it to head back in his general direction.

One or two goes and he should've had it sussed.

The wind can be blamed for making it a poorer game than it may have otherwise been, but what next?

Indoor football?

Your comments are as farcical as your team's effort to get the game abandoned.  There was no wind on the deck and when you started playing it there you easily managed to get out your own half.  Your keeper is either the thickest individual to walk the planet or was under instructions to kick the ball as high as possible.

If you can't play football in that mild breeze today then you shouldn't be playing football.

Well done Peterhead, did what was needed in the first half and then dominated the second.  It's a long time since we have managed to do that on a breezy day.

Good to see the team rewarded with a well deserved win, so many times this season we have not played too badly and got nothing hopefully its a corner turned just a pity we have a free weekend now. As for conditions it was not ideal but not impossible to play football as we showed. Not sure if it was a deliberate attempt to influence the ref to call it off once we scored again in the 2nd half as the keeper sent a number of kicks into orbit with comical results when that did not work he was able to reach the halfway line when adapting his trajectory. Balmoor gets its share of windy conditions but seem to remember one game at the rock Bobby Mann using a following wind scored against the sons from nearly 60 yards out. Couple weeks to get players back and hopefully kick on from today
