I'm amazed it's even being debated.  Stupid, rash and unnecessary challenge from Brian.

It's a crystal clear red card. I'm surprised more Hibs fans aren't angry at Porteous as he has form for this. At least when he did it in the 3-0 game in December 2019 they were already losing comfortably.

If he made any contact with Aribo it's a red. Aribo stayed down and all the on field reactions suggested contact.
I can't tell from the replays which is exactly why we shouldn't have VAR.
If you don't think it's clear from VAR then surely it can't be a red either?

Aribo stayed down for maybe 90 seconds. The ref thought there was contact. Rangers players were angry. No Hibs player accused Aribo of diving. That says contact to me.

TV pictures aren't reality. You can't improve on the live perspective.

Given that Porteous was leading with his studs showing, went over the ball and was off the ground, then I think this probably applies as a red card:

“Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play”
