As Greenock also has an outdoor swimming pool situated in stunning, fjord-like surroundings and more train stations than any settlement outside of Glasgow/Edinburgh, it should clearly be promoted to third city status ahead of pointless dumps like 'Aberdeen'.

I think we'd best avoid giving points for fjord-like surroundings. Otherwise Oban might make it past the first round of judging.

Look at the way the Sneck has cannibalised the places in its immediate vicinity though. Imagine trying to tell someone you were from Culloden these days. That’s basically the same as the relationship between Glasgow and Paisley/EK/Greenock.

Urban Sprawl , I think it’s called.

or was that the Hibbee who scored a hatrick at Ibrox ?

Are you mistaking Cappielow's pitch for an outdoor pool?

Loch Linnhe is quite like a fjord

And it’s an outdoor swimming facility if you’re brave enough

Oban is not really on Loch Linnhe though, in the same way that Largs is not on the river Clyde. The setting is actually quite similar for both towns, and not fjord-like at all.

Well seeing your original club died over 25 years ago as Cappielow has been an exquisite bowling green for years.

Fairy nuff VT- we actually died at Cappielow, Morton fans sang "Meadowbank, Meadowbank" in support of the Thistle fans that day.

I like the Gourock outdoor pool, a wee jewel of a place so if Saltcoats can't get city status why not Greenock (get it up ye Paisley)

If the outdoor swimming pool swings it for Greenock then Stonehaven, with it’s full size outdoor pool, I’d going to feel stupid for not entering

But you’ve got to be in it to win it

Sandy's chipper is also the generally accepted originator of the deep fried mars bar supper, so there's blue plaque level heritage and culture there. Is it too late for it to enter?

Absolute farce that we never got it tbh. How on earth a town without a cinema and attractions such as falling buildings in the town centre and endless potholes never got their deserved City status beggars belief.
