We played Bulgaria in the qualifiers for Euro 88 and 92.

Luxembourg were in our Euro 88 group.

Played Turkey in an away friendly in the 60s.

Amazing that there are so many teams we haven't played and that we just seem to go in cycles of playing the same teams over and over. We went for a period in the 90's of playing Estonia all the time, then there was Lithuania also the Faroe Islands and obviously Israel.

Given the historical vintage of both teams it's pretty remarkable that Scotland and Hungary have never met competitively.

We must be the only teams to have been ranked #1 in Europe that have never played each other in a qualifier or finals?

King Kenny Dalglish's last international cap (when he was already manager of Liverpool) came against Luxembourg in 1986 in the Euro 88 qualifiers. We won 3-0 with a double from Davie Cooper and one from Mo Johnston.

Almost exactly a year later (without Dalglish and Cooper and feauturing big Graeme Sharp and wee baldy Ian Wilson of Everton in their stead) we played out a 0-0 draw which is one of the prime results which gives us the 'f**k-it-up-against-minnows' reputation and the bore draw proved to be a hammer blow to our qualification hopes.

It's meagre consolation indeed that Gary Mackay "still never has to pay for a drink in Dublin" because we beat Bulgaria 0-1 in Sofia in the last group match and that meant Ireland went to their first ever major tournament.

I've seen us play both Bulgaria and Luxembourg competitively, no idea where you're getting that info from, but frankly its pish.
