Famous films you've never seen

Almost. Danson is sent to Scotland to find Nessie. He thinks it's all bullshit but one night he is out on the loch and meets Nessie. The two fall head over tail in love with each other. Danson invites Nessie to a oceanographer's dinner dance. Some of his friends are unimpressed with Nessie and tell him so when Nessie is out of earshot. Danson dumps Nessie who goes on the rampage and destroys Glass-gow and Edinboro killing thousands of people who look like Groundskeeper Willie. Danson is sent by the head oceanographer to calm Nessie down. Nessie says she is very sorry. Danson wants to get back together but  Nessie fears another broken heart. Danson goes back to America, a broken man. The final scene is Nessie frolicking on the banks of Loch Ness with her babies, all of whom have human Danson heads. Fin.
I'd watch that. Sounds a lot better than the actual film (I've seen it but can't remember the story).

Oh, I've never bothered watching Anime. I know there are loads of people obsessed with it, and I've listened to some of them explain why their favourite films/shows are so good, but it never sounds like there's anything terribly exciting or revolutionary going on in terms of story, just that they really like the characters and visuals. No doubt I'm wrong, there must be loads of quality stuff in the medium, but I just can't get excited enough to bother finding out.

It doesn't help that some of the biggest genuine OFTWs I've ever met have been Anime fans, right enough, and it's like Veganism - you'll know if someone likes Anime because they'll tell you within the first ten minutes.

Any of the Alien films, any of the Rocky films and none of the Mad Max films.

I caught a bit of whatever Rocky film has Dolph Lundgren in it, and Balboa is one of the worst boxers I've ever seen. Absolutely all over the place technically. The pro American propaganda wasnt exactly subtle either.

I'm secretly a hopeless romantic, and found myself quite caught up in Love, Actually. But yes, there are a startling number of c***s in it.

The Rocky films are notorious for bearing no relation to actual boxing, but I suppose that's like complaining about a hundred kung-fu fighters queueing up for their turn to get slapped about by Bruce Lee.

I wonder if the Godfather films are now old enough that they've entered into the "too old to be worth watching" category. The first one will be fifty years old in 2022, and I certainly haven't watched many pre-war films, for example. It's obviously a bullshit mentality, but I think most people experience it in one way or another.

For what it's worth, they're an absolutely sumptuous feast, and I don't think they've aged much at all. You can see how some films would've been done differently in the modern day, but they're pretty timeless.

Never seen an Indiana Jones film.

Same as these chaps. Along with ET. Most Disney films (Aladdin, Lion King, Beauty & Beast etc.) never really watched films growing up and always refused the offer of a trip to cinema.

I’ve never watched one minute of any Harry Potter films. Nor do I have any intention to watch them.

Godfather is a fantastic movie and I loved the whole trilogy, despite a lot of folk not liking the 3rd part. The problem with that movie was the bar had been set so high in the previous two instalments.

I first saw The Godfather at the MacRobert in Stirling in the late 90s. It was ~25 years old by then and like many here, I'd never seen it nor been particularly keen on seeing it. But a friend was going and didn't want top go on his own.

It was wonderful. Such a rich story, great characters. It is for me one of the best films ever made and I can see why so many people obsess over it. Doesn't matter that it is 50 years old now, better than anything else you'll see in the cinema this year.

Part II was good - I liked the first better - and the third wasn't as bad as folk make out. It just wasn't in the same league as the first two.

Anyway, back on topic - never seen Taxi Driver
