Rory Loy Appreciation Thread/Decent Journalism Thread

Recommended Posts

We're quick to have a pop at journalists/pundits so thought it was only fair to single one out that I've really enjoyed of late. Nothing to do with his ex-Dee link as he was pretty rubbish for us, but think he's been a shining star on OAM of late. Much better than the usual dross and actually bothers to do the slightest bit of research.

Don't expect this to be as popular as the Terrible Journalism & Tom English thread, but post your wee compliments and thought provoking articles that don't need a thread of their own here.

Loy was great on co-commentary last night for the Berwick v Gretna game.  Missed the first 15 minutes so didn't catch who "Rory" was but he kept mentioning he played with Alex Harris at Falkirk so had it confirmed it was him.  Nice and articulate and doesn't talk exclusively in cliches like McFadden and Boyd etc.

I thought the co-commentator was good last night but didn't have a clue who it was until I went on Twitter this morning. It's nice to hear that he's been good on the radio too so hopefully more punditry/commentary gigs come his way.

Another plus one here. Don't listen to OAM much now but was in the car on Saturday and he came over well. Very good last night too. Always been a good speaker and as noted by a few an absolute gentleman so glad he's found a path after playing.

Rory Loy is excellent on co-comms and on OAM. Easy to listen to, pronounces peoples names correctly - the kind of thing I like in a pundit.

Spot on mate. He does the basics correctly as you said and doesn’t solely focus on one club that they love Stewart/McFadden (Celtic), Rae/Boyd (Rangers) so a good addition and a refreshing change to the norm.

Don't you start that Sevcovian guff.

I thought he worked for Celtic TV so assumed he was ?

Maybe I was wrong but I generally thought people who worked for clubs TV channels were generally either former players or fans ??

Is David Tanner a Hibs fan?

f**k sake if he is.

Started off thinking he was good. Knows what he's talking about and can speak coherently which puts him ahead of most ex-players in the football media but by the middle of the second half I was wishing he'd reign it in a bit as he was in 'why use one word when ten will do' territory every time he spoke. Hopefully a bit more experience will get that sorted as he's off to a promising start.

He's only 33. Are his legs fucked?

Could be completely wrong here but I'm sure he was struggling mentally.

He had mental health problems before he came to Dumbarton but I don't think that was the reason he stopped playing. I understand it was back injuries that finished him. He was working on the railways with our sponsors for a while but unsure if he's packed that in for the punditry now.
