St Mirren v Aberdeen

We are shite. Absolutely

But we were comfortably the better team & heading for 3 points until Collum sent our boy off. Wrongly (the first yellow was a joke, no complaints with the 2nd).

Many a yellow is given on a debatable basis, but given he was on a yellow the sending off was correct, it was for the player to control himself.

Strange that Sportscene decided not to show the chance in the first half when Ferguson headed it down and Hedges just needed to get some part of his anatomy on the ball to knock it into an empty net.

That looked a sitter in every sense.

Loved the 2nd goal: McGrath going past Brown like he wasn't there then Ronan's dummy leaving Bates on his arse before burying it in the corner.

McGrath managed to make Brown look decidedly amateur multiple times in the last half hour of that game. Sky showed a stat saying that’s Scott Browns first ever defeat to a St Mirren side in 20 odd games, which is pleasing. It must have been league games only though as he definitely played in the League Cup semi in 2013.

Can't understand folk moaning that we're at it with Brophy.

Forgive me as I'm not fully up to speed but isn't one of the caveats of the concussion sub now that the player will have to automatically sit out the next 10 days? I'm sure I remember reading that somewhere.

Pretty sure we wouldn't shoot ourselves in the foot like that given the next game, away to Livi is a big one for us.

I don't think so.

I'm sure Dundee had a CB go off v United with a head knock, they made 4 subs so it was clearly classed as a "concussion sub", but then he started v Rangers on Saturday, so not even a week between games.

Did miss the midweek Cup game though, so its maybe just the next game you're meant to miss?

In rugby, where they are pretty much lifting this rule from, the player does have to go through various "return to play" protocols if they are identified as a head injury, but I don't think there is any timeframe put on it, and it can be a lot longer (or shorter) than 10 days.

To be honest, it's about time football started dealing with head injuries and concussions a bit more seriously.

Nothing here about missing games. Although the opposition get an extra sub if they wish.

I think it depends - you are supposed to monitor and evaluate.

We had Paul Hanlon out for almost 3 weeks earlier in the season.

Definitely. If Brophy does have or has developed concussion, then I'm sure that medical advice would be for him to miss at least the next game.

............and, this might sound controversial but in days of fairly thin squads - shouldnt we be looking at short term emergency loans rather than rushing players back?

(maybe you can already do this, IDK ?

Its not just goalkeeper that is a "specialist" position where most teams have fewer players to cover.

But Bates grabbed Main first.

It should have been a penalty.

It doesn't matter what Main then does to Bates.

Anyway, it was a good game to watch.

Even with 10 men I thought Aberdeen looked dangerous on the break.

Nervy to the end TBH.

It’s strange how two people watching the same match can see things so differently. We never, ever looked dangerous on the break, or otherwise, after going down to 10 men. The only people being nervous would have been anyone who had a bet for St Mirren to win 3-2 in case it went to 4-2.

Ramsay and Ferguson both had shots that went close, and Samuels wrongly flagged offside when through.  But other than that, lots more at the other end, but probably to be expected.  Hedges was blowing by that point anyway and if he'd been able to stay on, that might have helped - as Emmanuel-Thomas came on and had one of his 80% of non-contribution matches.

We are not the first side to get a man sent off - but slow reaction from the bench to make the necessary adjustments, and yet again the naivety in the side was exposed and it only took ten minutes to go from a winning position to a losing one.  Another test set for this new regime, which they have failed miserably in.

Some good points.

Regarding the naivety of the side....the 4 man defence that lined up yesterday was respectively 24, 23, 21 and 18 years old. I've never in my puff seen such a young, inexperienced Aberdeen defence, and I suspect it'll be one of the youngest defences ever to start in the top league in Scotland.

Up until the red card, I actually thought they were coping well. St Mirren offered absolutely nothing and had only scored because we set it up for them.

After the red card, this is where Glass becomes culpable. Why he didn't react instantly and take off possibly Hayes to bring on McGeough is beyond me.  We were still in the lead and in control . What we needed was a spell of stability to come to terms with only having 10 players.....having a player sent off shouldn't mean that you totally lose the head.

The youngsters in the team though were hung out to dry as Glass stood there like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

There's no doubt that circumstances are constantly kicking us in the nuts, but Glass somehow has got to find a way to get this team firing for 90 minutes.

This is the point I made earlier on (or it may have been on the main Aberdeen thread) that there always seems to be a reason for the loss of points, and it's not the team's fault or the managment's - if only this, if only that, if only the other. By the end of October we could be if onlying ourselves into the Championship.
