Presumably some kind of AI that's rephrasing other posts to fit in before the inevitable BUY CRYPTO reveal.

The question is, why do they feel the need to do this? Do other forums have something in place where you need to have made a certain number of legit messages before you can post hyperlinks or something?

In news of something the Scottish Government have actually fucked up which will have a disastrous impact on people, rather than the media focusing on their imaginary interpretation of a bill passed over two years ago, rent controls which capped annual increases at 3% and the moratorium on evictions expired yesterday.

These had been introduced in 2022 on an emergency basis in response to the cost of living crisis, and they've just published a bill for permanent controls to be introduced which will also allow councils a role in deciding the extent of a cap on increases (and would allow that cap to be 0%) but that's going to be years away from coming into effect even if it doesn't end up watered down heavily on the way through parliament.

Simply allowing any sort of restriction to end in the meantime is disastrous and is predictably seeing landlords impose utterly egregious increases as soon as they get the opportunity, with some increases greater than 80% already being reported. There's supposed to be a tribunal process to challenge unreasonable hikes but the vast majority of tenants aren't going to have the ability to go through that process even if they have been made aware of it.

The new bill likely won't start making its way through parliament until 2026 so probably won't come into effect until 2028 at the earliest. Renters are being left at the mercy of landlords for years by the government and this is going to make the housing crisis considerably worse.

None of these things will do anything to fix the problem.   If landlords can't make a profit that outweighs their responsibilities then they simply won't bother and will sell up & leave the market., properties will be sold but most won't be sold to those who are currently renting them.  If landlords are allowed to behave as they like then they will do just that.  The only real solution is to build plenty of social housing to make a serious dent in the list. Not a wee block of flats here and there, you need whole new schemes similar to those built after world war two ( hopefully with lessons learned from those ventures)

After that, private letting can go back to filling it's normal goal of providing short to medium term accommodation for people whom it actually suits to do that - students etc
