Absolutely hilarious when you look at the 5 clubs pushing this!

Easily the 5 biggest underachievers in our sport are desperate for things to change... quelle surprise! After The OF, these 5 are probably the 5 next best supported clubs, which you would think would provide a base from which to achieve a degree of success.  But in reality the combined amount of debt and relegations between them over the past decade tells its own story.

These 5 perennial failures are right to organise a review. And it should be solely aimed at how not to run your club like a shitshow.

Yet another 'look over there' from their owners which their respective supports' will swallow up.  "It's someone else's fault we're shite!"

St Johnstone have won the same number of major trophies in the past decade as these 5 put together.  If you want to know how it's done, just pick up the phone, we're happy to help.

Your own chairman was in the papers about a month ago talking about a 24 team SPFL with the "focus going on the bigger, full time sides", and said Ann Budge and "others" had backed it. I've no idea why people are pretending its about anything else.

I can only speak from Dundee's point of view, but Nelms has previously been for a larger league (including when we were in the top flight last time round) but his concerns have always been more about the marketing of the league and the shite brand of the SPFL we have now. There is no USP other than us trying to show that we are a shite, cheap knock off of the English leagues so that'll be the angle we are coming at it from.

The diddy clubs affronted by not being involved will of course, once again stifle any real chance of progress. Celtic, Rangers, St Johnstone & Kilmarnock... one and the same.

Agree with your other points though! Our leagues are a cheep knock off of those down south, even down to the names. Scottish footballs USP is that despite having a 2 horse race, beyond that it is very competitive, often unpredictably bonkers and incredibly well supported.

Those in charge of the game either in the league bodies or at the club (yes, including my own) are too reluctant to embrace change for selfish reasons.

The same logic is behind it though.

The "review" will be focussed on finding the benefits of reducing the amount of teams in the SPFL, and comparing that to the negatives of keeping a larger SPFL.

Its a weighted discussion doomed to fail from the very start. 

These 5 clubs probably do have the "clout" to force decent change and take power from the OF, but they likely won't bother with that. It'll be all about getting rid of clubs and siphoning money towards themselves.

Tbf, one of the main remits is increasing revenue, they're hardly going to invite the guy who sold his generational talents for a bag of mitres and some training bibs.

I agree with you. Whilst nobody commenting here knows exactly what the objectives are or what the plans will be, my opinion/hope is that whatever is suggested from this review actually works and then allows clubs like Hearts and Aberdeen to gain a bit more commercial income (or again whatever they are trying to achieve) and someone eventually breaks the Old firm monopoly on the title.

I’m sure if Aberdeen or someone else started winning title after title the rest of us would just get as sick of watching them as we do the other two.

Then my next hope would be that by having a more exciting division and increased revenue that money would trickle down and maybe we could all start to benefit in a better league.

Sadly however I doubt any of that will end up happening. Surely even if the clubs do come up with a strategy then Celtgers just block it using the 11-1 rule?
