At that part of the field you are still going to have to take a shot down the field at some point, far easier to do it with the line stacked to stop the run than on 1st or 2nd down. It's a ballsy call, but it's the correct one. It only looks ballsy because half the OC's and HC's in the NFL are conservative cowards who would have called a FB/QB dive in the same situation.
