Religious groups in UK failing children over sex abuse, report says

Recommended Posts

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58420270

It covers a series of religious groups including Jehovah's Witnesses, Baptists, Methodists, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and non-conformist Christian denominations.

Anyone really surprised by this?  Seems like the Jehovah’s Witnesses are the latest group of scumbags to be exposed.  Not surprising given their other questionable and controlling behaviour.

The reports of the IICSA are worth following, if a bit grim in content. What is absolutely clear is that every part of British life for many years has had very similar problems with the sexual abuse of children. Schools, churches, public services, sport, culture - all of them have been riven with abuse for many, many years. Organisations have also responded to abuse very poorly, not prioritising the needs of children and protecting them over organisational reputation.

It’s no surprise to see religious organisations have major problems with CSA, the central position that religion has in many people’s lives obviously gives opportunities to abusers. However, these organisations are fairly typical in terms of covering up abuse and engaging in reputational protection over protecting children.

A cogent, sensible answer! I had to double check I was on the right forum.
