Any business pays for banking services as mentioned above, it is a part of business and how much comes down to how creative you can be to reduce it. The easiest solution is to pass it on to the customer in part or full. Here (Singapore), is virtually cashless with various forms of contactless payment and it hasn’t had such an impact on the eldery/poor (cannot comment on homeless), although I am sure some will have problems. Although the drive for being contactless as well as other smart/new technologies is driven as much by the government as the private sector, which maybe wouldn’t be as smooth in the UK. In countries like Indonesia and Philippines, where many people just don’t have bank accounts, cashless is also popular with companies providing mobile wallets/cashless possibilities.
