Can you imagine having the opportunity of punching Gove in the face and blaming it on you giving it the small/big boxes, but not actually taking that opportunity.

Shame on these people.

Where do people stand on the acceptability of going to music gigs alone?

If it is acceptable, what about going clubbing after the gig with new friends made during a gig that someone attended alone?

One of the best gigs i went to was by myself. Couldn't persuade anyone else that a double header of mercury rev (boces era) and swervedriver was worth the money on a schoolnight. Indoor smoking was still allowed and i had two very strong joints for company. Not conducive to socialising really.

The Pelican in Aberdeen was a great club in the early 90s

It still had its moments by the turn of the century too. I think reggae nights and indie nights (glider) had maybe stopped but they occasionally hosted the odd off centre DJ. Andy Wetheral, David Holmes and Dave Clarke spring to mind as special nights.

It’s like someone bet him a lot of money by saying “Michael you can’t do anything that makes you look more of a c*nt than you already do”.

It’s second to Prince Andrew’s interview in terms of misjudged media exposure.

Oh behave. A deliberate and wildly misjudged attempt to coerce and deflect the allegations of Royal noncery is a million miles ahead of a mid-50s guy getting caught on a smartphone while out on the piss.

Going to gigs alone is absolutely fine.

Yeah, if I didn't go to gigs on my Jack Jones I would have been to very few gigs.

As I alluded to in an earlier post, I grew up surrounded by teuchters who were pretty clueless and would only listen to whatever was played on Radio Tay. I would never let that hold me back from  doing what I want to do

At Hootennany's in Inverness, they normally play traditional doom and gloom music that seldom does anything for me even if a lot of people like it.

Upstairs, at Madhatters, they usually play alternative music that is more to my liking.

One occasion, I went there on my own to hear a band at Madhatters that I really wanted to see.  Unfortunately I was spotted.  "What are you doing up here?  Everybody's downstairs".  Thus I had to leave the fun stuff and go down to listen to the sort of music I can usually avoid.

Next time, I guess I will have to go in disguise.

So Sarah Vine is up for grabs?

Not for me, she blocked me on Twitter for calling her an attention seeking arsepiece after she wrote that ‘If I was old I’d be happy to Covid and not hurt the economy’ piece in whatever fascist shitrag pays for her droolings.

I went to Tacocat by myself last year because I found out there were still tickets on the day of the show. I’m old as f**k tho, so it was just a case of me standing up the back rather than me and the wife standing up the back.

About 20 years ago I went up to Aberdeen to visit a mate. We went out and ended up in some utterly tacky shithole called "Franklin's". It was probably the second worst club that I've been to, after "The Tuxedo Princess" in Newcastle. Is it still open?

I also remember the adverts on Grampian TV for a club in Aberdeen called "Charlie's". I never went but it looked like the worst kind of hellhole imaginable.

Unfortunately most people in Scotland see these places as the pinnacle of clubbing and would never go to a proper dance music club to see/hear a respected DJ.

Franklins is long gone but it was last chance saloon if you were too blootered to get in anywhere else

I’ve been to a club alone before. My excuse is that I wanted to keep the night alive after my mates went home and I wanted to get even more wrecked than I already was. There was a good chance I would know somebody in the club that I could have a drink with as it was a local club (Loft, Perth) and the only one open in town that night.

I went in, got myself a wee voddy coke, searched the club for a familiar face, didn’t see anyone I knew and then fucked off home ☹️

I’ve done the same thing at pubs before plenty times and had good nights out. Nowadays it can’t really be done because folk generally move on. I wouldn’t dream of going to the local club alone now and I’d probably not bother with a pub either - simply because I wouldn’t know anybody. Gone are the days you could rock up at the local boozer on a whim get pished with people you know. Maybe get away with it at Christmas time when folk are back home but even then it’s not the same.

I seem to remember us becoming acquainted having both gone to the same Aberdeen pub on our lonesomes.  😁
