Scottish Premiership Hot Potato 2021/22

Recommended Posts

Guess who's back.. Back again...

Nobody really cares who wins the actual league these days, and this competition always gives the wee teams a chance to win something, and with Dundee back in the league they will be itching to add to the trophy cabinet next to the "we played Crystal Palace" trophy they love so much.

As ever, we start with the biggest defeat of the opening weekend, which somewhat unsurprisingly was Livingstons 3-0 loss at Ibrox.

They only faced the prospect of the Hot Potato once last season, and comfortably sent it packing with a 2-0 win, so this truly is uncharted territory for the Lions.

They host Aberdeen on Sunday.

What a season this promises to be.

Week 1: Livingston (0-3 v Rangers (A))

A tough start to the season for Livingston, not helped by their keeper decided to monumentally f**k it up and throw one in.

Jubilant scenes at the end, when the Aberdeen fans realised they would not be carting the Hot Potato back up the A90 with them. And I suppose they enjoyed the last minute winner too.

Break for the League Cup this weekend, and then Motherwell travel to the Tony Macaroni Arena on the 21st, in a bid to avoid last seasons Lanarkshire based potato exploits.

I am not sure if the guys knew what was on the line yesterday

Tony Watt hates Hot Potatoes almost as much as he hates Tories

3 defeats from 3 for Livi, and another tough one for them next week as they travel to Easter Road in their latest bid to get rid of the hot potato. Will Hibs' first defeat of the league season come along with a Potato?

4 games, 4 defeats for Tony Macaronis boys. Next up is a trip to Premiership new boys and the quintessential yo-yo club, Dundee after the international break.

Week 3: Livingston (1-2 v Motherwell (H))

Week 4: Livingston (0-2 Hibs (A))

Dundee and Livingston are 2 of 5 clubs still searching for their first league win of the season, somethings got to give.

Livingston will be keen to offload it asap as following the Dundee game, they have Celtic at home and then Hearts away.

Those 5 clubs all still searching for that first win, leaves the Hot Potato in West Lothian for yet another week. I hope it likes roundabouts.

Week 5: Livingston (0-0 Dundee (A))

Next up for the League Cup Runners Up, CEO-less Celtic at home. If Livingston don't win that or the following game away at Hearts, they'll carry it in to October from week 1. Not that that has any significance whatsoever.

Fucking hell Ange mate, I go on holiday and you choose that week to be the funniest of all the Hot Potato weeks.

First of all a cracking win for Livi at the Spaghettihad sends it to Parkhead for the first time since I remember doing this (that could be wrong). Incidentally I saw that Gretna have won a league game at the Tony Macaroni more recently than Celtic. So that's a fun fact.

Then a nice comfortable fixture at home to the quintessential yo-yo club Dundee Utd. Easy win right? Wrong! Celtic retain the Hot Potato for another week.

The Potato stays up the A90 in Aberdeen min, after Celtic actually win a game. Maybe they will get the 10 this year after all.

Aberdeen & Dundee's US owners show incredible foresight in moving the upcoming game, now its an international Hot Potato fixture. f**k the folk actually going to the match, right?

Dundee victorious in the first real relegation 6-pointer this season.

Week 9: Aberdeen (1-2 Dundee (A))

Aberdeen without a win since Willie Miller was a wee lad, and Dave Cormack shouting to anyone who will listen about statistics. Hilarious.

Dons next 6 is against the current top six, this could get very funny indeed. First up is Hibs at Pittodrie followed by a trip to Ibrox.

Well would you look at that, a victory for statistics and Dave Cormacks data boys. To paraphrase The Beatles - "When you find yourselves in times of trouble, Hibs will give 3 points to you"

Week 10: Hibernian (0-1 Aberdeen (A))

Next up for the title/relegation contenders, a home game against buoyant (bhuoyant?) Celtic who will be riding high after a victory against the reigning double champions.

Week 11: Hibernian (1-3 Celtic (H))

Hibs retain the Hot Potato for another 2 days at least, next up for them is a trip to Dingwall. County fresh off absolutely demolishing Dundeee last night, will be keen to send the potato back to Leith.

2 days turned out to be the best part of a month, but we are back and back with a bang.

Week 12: Hib$ (0-1 Ross County (A))

Blair Spittals pin point cross enough to send HIbs back down the road with the Potato for the third week running.

It was all a bit much for poor wee Martin Boyle who chose to get sent off rather than take part in the next Hot Potato fixture. Coming up on Saturday, last seasons Betfred Cup semi finalists and Scottish Cup runners up travel to Perth to take on last seasons Betfred Cup Winners and Scottish Cup winners St Johnstone (have I mentioned that before?)

St Johnstone had quite a run with the Potato last season so will be looking to see it off comfortably this weekend.

As an aside, thanks to Hibs coughing all over each other this is probably the point where week numbers get fucked up, but I'm just going to pretend its all ok. We may or may not end up with week 38. We will end up with a Hot Potato winner loser
