Strathclyde Demolition Cup 2021-22

Recommended Posts

Now that there is something a symmetry between the North/South split I'd hope the members would be pushing for the winners of these individual cups to get access to the Scottish Cup rather than playing off against each other. A cup for non-licensed clubs in each of the six leagues at tier 6 with six cup places up for grabs.

From the competition rules :-

"3. This competition shall be played by member clubs that are not full members of the Scottish Football Association, nor in membership of the Scottish Junior Football Association.

4. The competitions shall be played on an annual basis and it shall be mandatory for all eligible member clubs of the League to participate."

On that basis, Drumchapel United will be playing in the competition again next season.

Shouldn't be too hard for it to be changed to "clubs not playing in the Scottish Cup or Junior Cup", because otherwise it's a bit unfair to everyone else in the competition and cup winners shield if Drumchapel get another shot at it.

Don't see why if they are still an unlicensed club and the WoS arranges its fixtures in a way that makes their participation in both the Scottish Cup and Strathclyde Demolition Cup possible. Maybe the EoS should make an adjustment to make it possible for their members to choose between participating in the SJC or the Alex Jack Cup?

The entire point of the AJC was to provide an alternate competition in the EOS while the SFA members in the then Scottish Qualifying Cups/now Scottish Cup proper. Switching it onto different dates clutters the calendar.

When the Cup Winners Shield was introduced they made sure to exclude the previous winner so that the qualifying spot couldn't be taken by the same club dominating the tournament.

Why is that unfair? It's a way of unlicensed clubs accessing the cup, I don't see why it should have to be on a "winner stays off" basis. The places available for unlicensed Tier 6 league winners can go to the same team every season.

Some people need to come to terms with the fact that the pyramid in the south doesn't belong to pre-2013 EoS and SoS clubs any more and how it evolves in future will be decided to a large extent by what the majority of clubs that were formerly in the junior grade want to do. So far in an EoS context most former east region clubs appear to have been happy to keep the previous EoS ways of doing things intact but there's no reason why the WoS has to do that on an issue like this.

I think it's more pragmitism than has excluded them than fairness. Scottish Cup/SCC/EoS Qualifying/South Cups will usually have a round each in August and September which would take up the bulk of Saturdays instead of league fixtures if a club goes on a run. Which is why the AJC and Alba use the Scottish Cup dates.

The EOS fixtures list the Strathclyde Cup winners v Crossgates on 30th April, and Crossgates v Nithsdale Wanderers on 28th May - presumably the other fixture away to NW will be somewhere in the middle.

Turns out the South of Scotland have the rules for the Shield up online. Under SCFA Cup Winners Shield  http://www.southofscotlandfootballleague.co.uk/downloads/constitutions-rules-regulations

The full 6 year rota was drawn and looks to have been binned when practicality came into it.

Season 1

ESFA v SCFA

WoSFL v ESFA

SCFA v WoSFL

Season 2

SCFA v WoSFL

ESFA v SCFA

WoSFL v ESFA

Season 3

ESFA v WoSFL

WoSFL v SCFA

SCFA v ESFA

Season 4

SCFA v ESFA

ESFA v WoSFL

WoSFL v SCFA

Season 5

WoSFL v SCFA

SCFA v ESFA

ESFA v WoSFL

Season 6

WoSFL v ESFA

SCFA v WoSFL

ESFA v SCFA

The only other that caught my eye was that the local cup runners up can contest the Cup Winners Shield if they had already won their T6 league. Presumably a hang over from when LTHV did the double meaning a qualifying spot was unused. A rule not likely to be used these days unless related to the SoSFL representative.

Quote

5.1 The Competition shall be held annually and shall be open to and contested by the Clubs that have won The ESFA Alex Jack Cup, The SCFA Alba Cup and the WoSFL Strathclyde Cup. If the same club wins the EoSFL Premier Division, and the ESFA Alex Jack Cup & is granted qualification for the following season’s Scottish Cup, then the ESFA Alex Jack Cup runners up will be eligible to enter the Cup Winners Shield in place of the League & Cup winners. Similarly if the SSFL is won by the same team as wins the SCFA Alba Cup & the above circumstances also apply, then the SCFA Alba Cup runners up will be eligible for entry to the Cup Winners Shield and if the same team wins the WoSFL Premier Division and the Strathclyde Cup & the above circumstances also apply then the WoSFL Strathclyde Cup runners up will be eligible for entry to the Cup Winners Shield.

The pathway next season might be a little easier on paper. Kilwinning Rangers, Rutherglen Glencairn, and Bonnyton Thistle are no longer participants after becoming members of the SFA.

Drumchapel United, Neilston, and St Cadoc's as First Division clubs are the highest placed teams unless there's some movement from SJFA clubs.

If you are a non-licensed club you’d be daft not not join the Strathclyde demolition cup

Nobody chooses to "join" the Strathclyde Demolition Cup. It is a mandatory competition for clubs who are not licensed and not members of the SJFA.
