Scottish Cup

To draw an analogy with George Orwell's Animal Farm it will be interesting to see if some cups are more equal than others on here.

To those that are in it - the Scottish Cup is the most prestigious tournament open to us at this level. Realistically the best prospect is to progress 2 or 3 rounds and hopefully draw a biggish team, play well and bring some publicity and credit to the club. Of course the money is very welcome also. Going out in Round 3 means a payout of £9500 - round 4 ( where the Premiership clubs come in ) has a guaranteed payout of £19500. For clubs that don't have someone pumping substantial amounts of money in, this is a big deal. Of course if you draw a bigger club then - as Talbot, Linlithgow and Meadow know well - the share of the gate is even greater still. If you're on the telly it's more still. Given the liklihood of Junior Clubs having their access removed, it was never going to be something that regular participants could give up and would've been high up the list of reasons for joining WSFL.

Of course if you're not in it then why should it matter ? Until you see how much of a difference it has made to Talbot. If you're not in it, the chances of competing without a sugar daddy diminish greatly.

Think you missed my point. The subforum for all shared cup competitions like the Scottish Cup is supposed to be Domestic Cups. If SJC threads are being moved off this subforum because they are cup rather than league related this one should be as well.

I deliberately raised the point of where to discuss the SJC with Div and requested that he moved an existing SJC thread to Domestic Cups so there would be a possibility of discussing the footballing aspects of that competition minus all the bizarre senior vs junior tribalism some people still seem to be obsessed with.

All fair points but as you have alluded to yourself you have to win games to make significant money. If being in the Cup was all that matters the likes of Girvan or Newton Stewart would be non-league powerhouses.

Even then the cash doesn't necessarily roll in. The year we played Ayr we drew a Highland League team away 3 rounds in a row. Talbot payed for an overnight stay for the team and officials for each of these rounds which took a significant portion of the prize money. If we had lost the third of those we would have had very little profit despite winning a few games

True although getting a bye into Round 1 guarantees £5000 - a not untidy sum. I understand what you say about expenses but its essentially the only way that a non-bankrolled club can make significant money from participating ( as Talbot have done so very well ).

I didnt realise a Junior Cup thread was moved - thats plain daft if it was down to tribalism. The Cups don't need a "Safe Space" as the timing and success in them will impact the how the leagues pan out. Also the context of the Scottish Cup is much different to non-league tier teams than to others higher up the food chain. Disappointing if it was felt it had to be moved

2018-19 was a long time ago in Scottish Cup terms. The format has changed & 30ish(?) Lowland area licensed clubs added.

The days of 3 Highland League clubs in a row away from home are numbered. Even then it could mean going to Dundee.

I'm confused. Why is this thread not in the right place?

It was originally in the WoSFL subforum before winding up in Domestic Cups. People who mainly used the Junior subforum previously that covered everything in the Junior grade including cups are not used to that way of doing things yet. Over the last few days Junior Cup related threads were moved out of the WoSFL subforum. The same approach now appears to have been applied to this Scottish Cup thread as well.
