Attendances information 2021/22

I think tomorrow could approach the biggest aggregate EOSL attendance in living memory. It would need to surpass 3,417 from a groundhop in March 2019 to achieve so. It's unfortunate that Glenrothes v Burntisland, Peebles v Hawick, Bathgate v Armadale, West Calder v Stoneyburn and Edinburgh College v Syngenta are all off (and Arniston v Dalkeith replaced by v Rosyth) since they could've delivered many hundred more supporters, some of whom won't go elsewhere.

It will also be an interesting barometer to see how big crowds are faring after 18 months crisis. International weekend in September 2018 delivered an aggregate crowd of 3,310; average 184. International weekend in September 2019 delivered an aggregate crowd of 2,875; average 152 (no figure got returned for Dundonald v Sauchie). Of course you can't draw a direct equivalence as many fixtures aren't the same, most clubs that have joined are smaller plus Bonnyrigg and Bo'ness have ascended to LL.

There are a few games tomorrow which did have direct equivalents in 2018 or 2019:

Tranent v Musselburgh     crowd in 2019 was 457
Tweedmouth v Coldstream     crowd in 2019 was 115

A new high of 532 watched @TranentJRs_FC v Musselburgh.

 

All 93/93 crowd numbers in for this division takes the total to 16,612.

63/63 for the season. 5,067 all in.

Back in the day, before expansion, there was a crowd of 500 at City Park for a Spartans v Whitehill end of season title decider. 

It's certainly great to see folk turn out to see Penicuik, Mussey, Tranent, Haddington and Dunbar.

So crowds appear steady v 2019.

Some healthy crowds again, the 100 mark and upwards, think a lot of people are realising how important ALL non - league clubs are, and are fed up paying over the odds for spfl nonsense etc. Brilliant stats yet again, keep it going.

At some point are you going to acknowledge that the EoSL premier in particular is primarily a continuation of what happened in the east region of the SJFA now in de facto numerical terms and that the sensible comparison on this would also include the crowds that showed up previously for fixtures like Tranent vs Musselburgh in a junior context? What would actually be noteworthy in some way would be if EOSL attendance this year was bigger than EoSL + east region attendance would have been in years past. All that junior football history hasn't just disappeared into a black hole.

An "historian" of the EoSFL asked to have decades worth of insight into a completely different league where no firm record keeping exists in the public domain.

Well of course a comparison will only be possible when you have data from a junior context.

Good luck finding systematic crowd data over a span of living memory for the EoS when many of the clubs involved were playing on public parks for a lot of that period and in some cases particularly in the Edinburgh area there would have been minimal interest from the local print media. A league with many more members than ever before (with most of the new arrivals having something resembling a conventional enclosed ground unlike most of the pre-existing membership) having larger aggregate attendences than ever before is the sort of development you would associate with this guy:

Saying in advance of the games being played it might be the highest aggregate isn't all that obvious. While this year has the highest membership even compared to 2018-19 (+20) and 2019-20 (+19), only 21 league fixtures were played due to the various postponements and clubs idle.

In 2018-19 there would be matchdays with 18 league fixtures, and 2019-20 would have matchdays with 20 league fixtures.

In reality I was one of the first posters on here that posted in favour of clubs defecting en masse to the EoS from the east region and was doing so back when Burnieman was still arguing that Kelty Hearts should stay in the east region and work for change through the SJFA.

417 games have produced 1,666 goals.

With 24 of the 417 games to declare a crowd 53,291 have attended so far.

Many followers with an interest in the Juniors and now Seniors, will have memories of big crowds (without the data) and I'd guess most non league clubs have kept their crowds, maybe adding a few along the way. It's just good to have the current stats with attendances etc, excellent work. I can remember the bigger Junior games with 1,000+ and now both the East and West have a great support numbers. Good news all round.
