Can we agree that Neil Lennon is largely to blame for how garbage Shane Duffy was with Celtic?  He's been decent in the Barclays so far this season

Must be a tinpot pub league, my nan could score down there etc. etc.

Sancho is a colossal waste of money.

I never saw much of him at Dortmund, but he seems to keep getting played on the left and just cuts inside to be crowded out by numerous defenders.

The manager is a big problem for them. But in terms of players I think full-back is where they are really being held back. Their wide forwards are all players who cut inside - Greenwood on the right, Sancho and Martial on the left. This makes quality full backs so important to either create space by dragging defenders away, or delivering quality into the box when they get the ball. Similar to how Liverpool play when Mane and Salah cut inside and Robertson and TAA provide the overlap. Shaw had a decent season last year but still isn't a top class full back, and Wan-Bassaka is useless going forward. It's particularly an issue when teams sit deep and they can't break them down. The other top side in the league with relatively limited full-backs is Chelsea, they get around this by playing a different system. The full-back issue, plus always playing 2 defensive midfielders means they are always going to struggle. You'd think part of the purpose of playing Fred and McTominay is so that they don't lose cheap breakaway goals when the full-backs push on, but then you see Everton's goal today and wonder what the point of them is.

Sancho is actually a very good player who proved himself to be very effective playing on the right of a front three.

However in typical Barclays fashion, he’s signed for big money, being  chucked on for cameo sub appearances in a position which he’s relatively unproven and for a team whose manager really isn’t very good.

Luke Shaw completely abandons his position to try (and woefully fail) to win the ball on the other side of the pitch, leaving Townsend the freedom of the stadium to put it in the corner.

McTominay failing (yet again) to track a runner.
