Musselburgh Athletic 2021/22

Recommended Posts

The action from Mussy's penalty kick win over Stoneyburn.

Mussy weren't at their best but fair play to the opposition for taking them all the way.  Now that Nathan Evans is away, offensively we look short with 2 of our 3 strikers out injured.

Next game away to Dunbar on Saturday, trying to maintain our unbeaten league record.

Sorry to disappoint you MDM, but other matters mean I will only be at a couple of Musselburgh matches this season. 👍

No problem Casey Jones, hope all's well and I look forward to normality being reestablished one day 😉

Took in my 1st Burgh match this season and it was a definite 2-points dropped today against a very ordinary Dunbar team. Burgh lost an early goal, where a long unchallenged run up left wing then a great cross to the back post. It wasn’t defended at all and an easy header into the net. Within 10 minutes, Burgh were 2-1 up; 1st from close range and a penalty. In the next 30 mins before half time, Musselburgh should have been out of sight. They had so much possession but couldn’t make it count.

Second half was an altogether different match as the standard of play went down a few notches with Dunbar getting the equaliser in last 10 minutes.

Burgh have played six matches but having drawn 3, find themselves 9 pts behind Tranent and Penicuik, albeit with game in hand. Not sure how long Mathu and Dean are going to be out, but if Burgh has any aspirations for the season, a new striker has to be an immediate purchase. New keeper, Ben has to do better with his kick-outs. All bar one in the first half, when played out right, went out for throw-ins, and no quick balls played out to defenders.

Until he went off injured, Lloyd was the best player on the park. Josh had, for me, his best match since joining Burgh. A must away win required, in mid-week, against Linlithgow.

Maybe DUFC were ordinary, but I'd suspect it depends very much on the writers point of view. Musselburgh Athletic certainly had the better of the first half. I couldn't disagree that one. I'd summarise that in the the last 30 minutes a big change took place. DUFC were the more threatening team, certainly many more scoring chances. Johnny Edmond buried on, was unlucky with another as was Jonesy.  Michael McFarlane was extremely unlucky with a header that ran along the crossbar and wouldn't drop for any DUFC striker. I reckon the Mussy sub in the last 15 mins was a tactic to save a point...

But a good clean game in a well attended ground with the weather being kind. Very much looking forwards to the return match later in the season

All about opinion mate so I am not going to disagree with the main part of your message. After the equaliser went in, Dunbar could well have gone on to win. They did that two seasons ago when 1-0 down, down to 10 men with 7 mins remaining and came back to beat Burgh 2-1. Where you are wrong is with your sub. If Burgh were playing for a draw, they would have brought on Brad Donaldson, a centre half, or would either have brought the 2 wing half’s back into defence, or played a 4-4-2.

The guy who came on is usually a starter for the team and our free kick specialist, so he was brought on in the hope of creating better chances up from. If we had a forward in our subs bench, one of these guys would have been brought on too. Yesterday’s draw put us further behind top 2, so Burgh’s manager wanted a win, not to secure a point.

Good crowd / weather as you say 👍

Didn't know you were at the game CJ. Good to hear. Can't disagree with your match report. See you at Lithgae, who've just sacked their management team, if you're there.

I stood behind the goals we defended in the first half. The main length where most fans stood was too busy for me. Just good to be able to watch the match in my own wee world.

Won’t be at Lithgae. Just going local this season when the mood fits. Looked a good crowd which is always good to see. Hope you are doing well PTB. Sorry I stole your thunder with my thoughts. Quite nice to watch instead of always writing notes and missing quite a lot of the match.

Seven matches undefeated now and only one of two teams in Premier LEauge with that record. However, because of four draws, we sit 11 points behind leaders Penicuik, albeit with a game in hand.

We definitely need to sources a good striker as only 1 of 3 at club not injured. Although a good result last night against Linlithgow, team will be kicking themselves that they couldn't hang on to a 2-0 lead.

THird place though and plenty to be optimistic about as the season progresses 👍

A lot to be positive about Tuesday's game, CJ, notably the work rate. New management, only one fit recognised striker, new goalkeeper & same 3 defenders 4 games in a row who are getting to know each other better. Great spirit & workmate, only the end result ultimately disappointed, but many of us would have accepted a draw beforehand.

Hope you manage to get to a game. Depending on where you are staying, you have choice of 3 matches in Edinburgh to go to.

Think of the 3; you might not get into Peffermill 3G, as I have seen a number of matches there, mainly amateur, where the notice states fans not allowed.

Meggatland is in the same complex where Tynecastle play their EoS matches and Boroughmuir play rugby union, albeit not on same pitch, so I can't see anyone stopping you from watching.

Both Saughton and Pinkie have pitches bang in the middle of playing fields, so you could just walk straight into the parks up to where the 3G pitches are.

Enjoy anyway pal!
