England have done very well to get to the final and certainly could have won this in the first 20-30 mins. After that they sat back and never looked old doing much then. I do think that they have had so many advantages, playing at home every match except 1, opponents playing in extreme heat and with huge amounts of travelling, the number of fans in the stadium, easier side of the draw. It was a re-run of their last major defeat in 2018. In their semi-final against Croatia in 2018 they scored after 2 minutes, then sat back for the rest of the game and were given the runaround, before eventually losing an equaliser in the 68th minute. And then losing in extra-time. Tonight, they scored after 2 minutes, sat back, were given the runaround for the rest of the game before losing an equaliser in the 67th minute. This time they managed to get through extra-time, but lost on penalties. You can't deny that on paper Southgate has improved England - although their easy route in 2018, and home advantage and relatively easy route this time have obviously helped. He comes across as a nice guy and I'm sure the players like him and he's created a good atmosphere, which for England is half the battle. Stupid as it sounds, don’t think scoring early helped England . They sat in all night after that.
