Clockwork
Late drama at the Showgrounds as H&W Welders grabbed all three points at leaders Newry City in the Championship Friday night game. Michael McLellen put the visitors in front on 37 minutes, a lead they held almost to the final whistle. Mark Kelly equalised on 87 minutes to take what looked like a share of the points, only for a stray back pass to bobble its way past Steven Maguire for a 90 (+4) bizarre own goal and to hand a last gasp victory to the Welders. Newry remain six points clear at the top, Welders move up into 4th with the win (after two consecutive defeats), with every chance of pressing on this month; successive home games against the bottom two, Queens Uni & Institute next up.
Jacksgranda
Linfield beat Ballymena to go 5 clear at the top, although Cliftonville have a game in hand. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/60011035 More later
Clockwork
With leaders Newry City losing at home on Friday night, both Ballinamallard and Annagh United went into the 2nd V 3rd clash looking to close the gap in the ‘game of the’ day in the NIFL Championship. Simon Warrington scored twice for the Ducks, which should have made for a comfortable half time cuppa for the visitors had Richard Clarke not been dismissed on 43 minutes for a dangerously high challenge. Defender Owen McConnville pulled one back for the Portadown side, but Harry McConkey’s men held on without too much trouble for maximum points and managed to cut the deficit at the top to 3 points. Elsewhere, Ards suffered a surprised defeat at home to Dundela, after going in front through Gary Donnelley. Big Dee Fearon smashed in the equaliser on 58 minutes before young Englishman Rhys Annett netted twice in a lively performance coming off the subs bench to seal an impressive away win for the Duns.Ballyclare continue to display their frustrating inconsistencies , going down 2-1 at home to lowly Institute, now unbeaten in three league starts. Liam Hassin opened for the Comrades in an untidy contest but allowed Stute to hit back late on, with Brendan McLaughlin squaring the game before Mark McFadden worked his way through, to snatch a dramatic 90+2 winner and take all three points back up the A6.Dergview and Loughgall shared the spoils at Darragh Park, Benny Igiehon netting for the home side on 36 mins, Nathaniel Ferris equalising on 66, only a stunning save by Keeper Alan Buchanan just before the final whistle denying the visitors a last gasp winner. Wrapping things up, basement side Queens Uni notched only their 3rd League win of the season with a convincing 3-1 win over Knockbreda at The Dub to halt a run of five successive defeats, Leon Bonnes, Ciaran O’Hare & Chrissy Middleton all on target for Queens. The top two meet at Ferney Park, Co Fermanagh next Saturday. Ballinamallard United Vs Newry City.

Clockwork
Excellent write up, you could be reporting on the big boys next season!Haha, I’m quite happy leaving the lofty heights of the Premiership to you!@Jacksgranda [emoji3] Plus I’m not sure about the appeal of reporting back on Carrick Rangers every week! What an absolute waste of three points yesterday in added time! Will say though, whilst it’s great that the BBC have a set number of live games and the highlights reel on the iPlayer, its disappointing how they don’t seem to have worked with the NIFL on forthcoming ( or rearranged) games on their live schedule. The game tomorrow night at Solitude, Cliftonville Vs Glens being a good example. A top of the table clash to see who can peg Linfield back, that we’ll have to rely upon the radio stream to keep tabs on. Another wasted opportunity for probably a decent audience boosted by interested neutrals.

That's the second time they've passed up an opportunity like that, isn't it, they did the same with the Reds v Crues game, too?

Jacksgranda
Maybe there's a contractural reason why they can't show rearranged games, perhaps because they would be showing 2 from the same set of fixtures (albeit they weren't all played at the same time). Yep I guess so, but other broadcasters/leagues seem to manage it. Aberdeen Vs Rangers this coming Tuesday night for example?[emoji848] If you haven’t seen it yet by the way, the Welders winner (6:08) on Friday night at Newry is well worth a quick watch.[emoji3] Edited January 16, 2022 by Clockwork add clip
