The Glens survive a scare against Dergview thankfully, fair play to them though, never gave in by all accounts.

Where have you been hiding? :)

Good to see you're still doing the "Jackie Fullerton "role as Irish League correspondent for P&b mate..😄

I've been called worse! I wouldn't mind his head of hair.

I've also got a very able assistant now in @Clockwork

Newry beating Warrenpoint is probably the biggest shock there.

Larne sign Portadown forward Lee Bonis for a reported £100k fee. (too much for the Blues & Glens[emoji15]).
Ports clearly struggling this term, but that’s decent money for a guy who’s scored just three goals in 20+ appearances this season. Had a good strike record in the Championship though, young and strong, perhaps the move to Inver Park is just what he needs.

Makes you wonder of he's a really good player or Larne have a bit too much cash...either way nice to see that kind of money be spent in the IL and go to a local team.

It’s an interesting one as you might think that sort of outlay could be better spent on shoring up their defence or on a defensive midfielder given the goals they’ve conceded so far this term. Finding the back of the net doesn’t seem to be a problem. They’ve drawn blanks in just 2 league and cup games this season, in a goalless draw with Carrick back in September and a narrow 1-0 defeat against Linfield just before Christmas (both league games at Inver Park).
David McDaid has being firing and the two young lads Ronan Hale & Andy Scott both contributing too. Hard to judge Thomas Oluwa to date on limited appearances since signing from Galway United back in August.
Lynch clearly feels that he needs more options/combinations across their forward line. Will be interesting to see what he has in mind, to try and scramble back into the mix with the top three.

And Larne retain the County Antrim Shield - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59961543

And Swifts win relegation 6 pointer at Milltown - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59958595 - vital win for Dean Shiels' side

Cracking game apparently...guy in work is a big blue man and said Linfield had most of it but couldn't finish

Aye, a couple of really good chances spurned, but credit to Tiernan Lynch and his side, he set them up just nicely, to blunt Linfield across the middle of the park whilst playing some decent stuff of their own. Did look like a push on wee Stewart before Cosgrove’s goal, but don’t think The Blues could have any complaints over the 90 minutes.

Another historical tweet ends in disaster - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59982152

I don't understand why people post stuff like that, do they not realise it is there for ever? I know there is some close to the knuckle stuff posted on P&B, but at least it is anonymous. (And it can be deleted before it gets quoted!)

The link now just goes through to the piece on Teenage Striker Cora Chambers NIW call up/possible final squadJacksgranda maybe the page has been updated?
Perhaps referring to the Joe Gorman stuff (Portadown)? Just a stupid irresponsible thing to say/tweet. No doubt that he probably regrets it now in terms of his football career but there’s no hiding place on social media these days if you put yourself out there.

(ETA, just had a quick look; 11 different clubs since 2013 and just 135 appearances in all competitions since turning pro (9 years ago), I’m not sure that Portadown are missing out on too much by not signing him?)

Two stories about Gorman on the NI football page and both link to Chambers!

"

Joe Gorman says he "sincerely regrets" a sectarian tweet he posted in 2014.

Portadown cancelled the signing of the player on Tuesday just three days after announcing his arrival at the club.

A number of supporters had criticised the signing of Gorman after it emerged that the then 19-year-old had posted on his account that he would "love to open up" on "orange men".

"It was a grave error of judgment on my part and one I wish I could take back," said Gorman on Twitter on Thursday.

Gorman was subsequently suspended by Inverness Caledonian Thistle following the offensive tweet in 2014 and after leaving the club he had spells in the League of Ireland with Bray Wanderers and Drogheda United.

He spent two seasons with Cliftonville in the Irish Premiership before returning to the League of Ireland with Longford Town and Galway United.

"After further discussions this deal has not been concluded," Portadown revealed in a statement on Tuesday.

Gorman 'apologises unreservedly'

On Thursday, Gorman said on his Twitter account that he "would like to address an issue from my past".

"It was at a time in my life where my world view was particularly narrow and I did not appreciate the gravity of my comment," he said.

"I had not intended for it to be taken seriously but I now completely understand why many people did so and were naturally very upset by it.

"It was borne out of a combination of teenage bravado and a lack of understanding. I say this not as an excuse but merely by way of explanation.

"I have grown up and appreciate that we all have different outlooks on life which must be respected.

"I apologise unreservedly and I would like to educate younger people as I did back in 2014 when I visited schools to speak of bigotry and the correct use of social media so that others can learn from my mistake." "

^^^link has changed as described in the earlier post by Clockwork. I assume this is what it's all about?

https://extra.ie/2022/01/14/sport/soccernews/joe-gorman-apologises-tweet-portadown

...Gorman, who was 19 at the time and playing in the youth team for Scottish side Inverness Caledonian Thistle, was suspended by the club after posting a sectarian tweet.

‘Ross Kemp in Belfast talking about the Troubles. Wouldn’t you just love to open up on all them Orangemen,’ Gorman wrote in the tweet, which was later deleted....

How could he even think about playing for Portadown of all clubs after tweeting something like that? Something you would maybe want to mention to the other party before the signing announcement.
