Was not much singing from the away support which outnumbered the home support 3 to 1. Cracking day, topped my sun tan up while enjoying the banter on the canal bark. Hopefully get back to winning ways against Huntly on Wednesday night It's tough going being a Vale fan currently when taking in the Banffshire derby,as we're poor right now and they are flying......,unfortunately
Ranaldo Bairn
Absolutely unbelievable wins for Strathspey and Turra, Jeff. Must have been some scunner for the Fort boys hearing thise scores after a valiant effort by them at Inverurie.
Ray Patterson
Suppose from a FW POV it's all about trying to get some confidence in the squad and pick up a few points here and there to try and cause a shock in the Play-off.

Finished bottom of the league when I started following them, so seen it all before, was no relegation back then though. welshbairn
It's been quite the week for disappointing behaviour in the Highland League. Vale fans spitting at a Buckie player, and Nairn and Keith fans shouting racist stuff at one or more Huntly players. Quote SHFL Statement re Racist Verbal Abuse In view of recent incidents, the SHFL has releaswed the following statement. 'The Highland League has always prided itself on its inclusiveness, its role in the communities in which it exists and its acceptance of diversity. However, recent weeks have seen a worrying trend with instances of racial abuse occurring at SHFL matches. This is completely unacceptable and has no place in the Highland League or, indeed, anywhere. The message is quite simple to those who use such language – you are not welcome at Highland League matches, or matches anywhere, so stay away as you have no place in a modern society. To all Highland League supporters – be aware of this issue and point out anyone who resorts to racist language. Remember – for bad things to survive, all that’s needed is that good people do nothing. It’s time for the good people to stand up and be counted.' welshbairn
Vale ticking off their fans. Quote On Saturday a number of unacceptable actions were observed by fans and by the stewards brought in to assist with matchday activities. These included foul and insulting language directed at Buckie Thistle players, allegations of spitting, attempts to let off smoke flares, the pushing of one of the stewards and the passing of alcohol over the fence at the Canal Park side of the ground. Instances of alcohol consumption and foul language have been observed, from both home and visiting fans, at other matches at PRP this season and Deveronvale have initiated discussions with the local police force regarding these issues and would re-emphasise that none of our players, management, committee, or board find such behaviour in any way acceptable. https://www.facebook.com/DeveronvaleFootballClub
Lex
Looking at that league table as a neutral, that's an awful lot of meaningless games going on. Am i right in saying that teams from about 4th to 17th have nothing to play for and haven't for a while? Has that had much impact on attendances etc?
Jimmy Shaker
Attendances at most grounds have been in the toilet for a bit, TBH, dating back to the meaningless seasons when Brora won their first two titles before a ball had been kicked. A lack of proper record keeping means its hard to tell exactly what's happening but I'd guess crowds at some clubs have bounced back a bit. For the trips to Keith and Vale, tho, you'd have been forgiven for thinking the locals had all been told the games were off when Lossie came to town. Most clubs have something to play for insomuch as everyone is already preparaing for next season. Difficult to tell who'll be Team Chump next year if Fort aren't here. Certain Shire outfits look like they may yet get dragged further down into the mess if they're not careful this summer. It was also followed up with an email to them to see what had been done. To agree it was nothing is belittling the incident or even condoning the actions. 16 hours ago, RH33 said: If that's the case give Rod a call on the number at bottom of press release, he'll want to know. Certain Shire outfits look like they may yet get dragged further down into the mess if they're not careful this summer. Ours tailed off when we were no longer in contention; if we had held out against Broch (3-5) and then not followed up with the hangover at Formartine (0-1 loss) then we would still be right in it. However we are not and only the 300 or so die hards are coming to the games. We have also lost a lot of hospitality with games off and the rearranged ones not getting the same amount of hospitality uptake. Next year......?

Potential demotion has added to the mix at the bottom and outside the top 6 or so the battle is to improve on last year's league position and hopefully squeeze into the top half, which has been the case in most years without a runaway winner. I would say attendances are down a bit this year, maybe due to people getting out of the habit during Covid. Games aren't meaningless just because you're not going to win the league or get demoted.

Cold Feet
Top 4 place gets invite to league cup (£20k for just turning up) and to challenge cup (or whatever it is called these days). But one thing in SPFL was that you rarely get to a level of safety until close to end of season or playing for playoff positions. Although not always a good thing LOL.
